the only consolation is that twat johnson would have been fucking unbearable and claiming all the credit if england had won...
Just think of all the shit they’d be hiding under the fog of victory. Keep an eye out for what they slip through while we’re distracted by the defeat too.

Gareth Southgate speaks to the BBC. “We’re hugely disappointed. The players have been an absolute credit, they’ve given everything they possibly could. They’ve run themselves into the ground. At times they played really well, at times we didn’t keep the ball quite well enough, especially at the start of the second half, but we can’t have any recriminations, they’ve been a joy to work with. They’ve gone further than we’ve gone for so long, but tonight it’s incredibly painful in that dressing room. It’s down to me. I decided on the penalty takers based on what they’ve done in training, and nobody is on their own. We won together as a team, and it’s on all of us for not being able to win the game tonight. But in terms of the penalties, that’s my call. It totally rests with me.”

Don't expect many people to share this view, but I regard the result as a draw. Penalties are a glorified coin toss and lifting a cup is just a bit of performance art. Not just saying that tonight, I always feel that.

Sadly I can't agree on the draw bit. I totally agree about pens as a horrible way to decide it, but I can' think of a better way either. (And I've always hated them too.)

The very worst bit of pens is that it always creates villains, as we're already seeing on this thread. Be great if someone could come up with a way to do it that created a hero instead. But I can't think of one.

It’s how I always view it too

My mum basically said the same, that it shouldn't be considered a loss (while also conceding that, in one way at least, yes it was.. ;) ).
In some ways I'd prefer them to share the trophy, though you'd then get the weaker team playing for a draw. Though tbh, that would be fine. The stronger team would have to try and win it in 90/120 mins.
