Elon Musk - news and discussion

Was just discussing this with a real life non internet person, who said similar to what Spymaster wrote earlier - the idea that he intentionally went out on stage to do some Nazi salutes is way more bonkers than most other explanations of what happened.

I think this is one of those things where a certain portion of the internet gets over-excited and ends up arriving at some slightly bizzare conclusions with silly levels of certainty.

If you already strongly believe Musk is a wrongun (for the record, I believe he is a wrongun) then there's a quite powerful incentive to believe that he's done something that unambiguously proves that he's the worst type of wrongun that most people can think of. The more benign explanations are unappealing.

We see the same sort of thing here on urban quite often.

I don't think it was an intentional fascist salute, nevertheless the guy's a menace and a serious baddie. I don't mind him copping flak to say the least, but I'd prefer it to be grounded in something more solid.

To be fair, he couldn't have given them a better case for confirmation bias! :D

Stepping back though, Musk is all kinds of wrong but he's definitely not a total idiot. The potential for the immeasurable damage that this could do his businesses alone, makes me question his chucking Nazi salutes on purpose and with malice aforethought, so to speak.

hes not a "wrongun" a "menace" or a "baddie" hes fash who likes to do fash stuff and repost fash shit and tell people to vote fash and wade in to a race pogrom with support for the fash and when he's not doing that he just generally likes to normalise the fash...oh and on sundays he updates his little emoji to a little fash caesar frog

Those of you who are absolutely convinced that Elon Musk stepped out on stage and deliberately performed two Nazi salutes: can you explain what you think his motivations were and why he decided to do this?

where have you been the last year? why do you think he's telling germans to vote for neonazis? what are his motivations? maybe answer that first and come back to the thread

rightio makes mental note of the people who would have to see Elon musk riding on top of a panzer into Warsaw before saying he was a bit of a fascist
The guy is a fascist. 100%. He's dumb on some level carrying on like that and copping a load of flak because he's all bullied up on adrenaline. Anyway fuck him. Although as I say I'd prefer it not to be the focus because in the long haul it might not be a good exercise. But who knows it may haunt them and damage them straight out the gate. If you can look at that in the context of the speech and say it's unequivocal, I'll accept a different view. I'll say no more.

Not wanting to delve too deeply into defining fascism as a political ideology but he's not really 100% fascist. The whole corporatist thing would be a bit of a turn off for him. He is most certainly a fash fellow traveller, promoter and enabler with a liking for fascist imagery though. He's also a massive fucking racist, and a complete scumbag who never met a fascist he didn't like or wouldn't want to promote on his personal far right megaphone.

80-90% fascist then.

I think this is one of the reasons how we ended up at Trump 2. People just can’t believe the facts that face them and decide not to believe what they see and believe instead that people are misunderstood/look away.
