The Q50 had a backup mechanical clutch system in place for when the power went out, no idea if the Tesla has such a sensible thing.
ETA: FWIW, I might trust a Japanese car with that. But Tesla? Tesla of the "hide all the mechanical door openers so that when the car catches fire and the electrics go out your rear seat passengers burn to death"? Not so much.

It has been interesting to watch the fringes of it all.
As you say, it seems to have really exposed him in the eyes of a lot of people he's courting, one way or another, because it's just so blatant. A lot of comments have been along the lines of if he'd just been bad, that would have been one thing, and probably not all that serious, but trying to front that you're better than you are generally doesn't go down well and generally loses you a lot of respect, whether you're a kid playing in his bedroom or a billionaire.
And yeah, time will tell just how much impact it has in the grand scheme of things, but if there's more people questioning a path they might otherwise happily go down, that's something.

Pretty interesting interview with (hold your nose) Steve Bannon. There's a strange part of me that is re-assured that he at least appears to be using a critical lense through a lot of this mess. Thing is it won’t really land. It’ll be lost again in the swarm and the whole circus will go on banging its drums and clashing its symbols and doing pie in faces over and over.
