Elon Musk - news and discussion

aside from supporting actual neo-nazi party in Germany
Same plausible deniability. Depending on who you ask, you might get the answer "it's not nazi to have legitimate concerns about immigration and to have pro-German policies".

You and I both know that's bullshit, but enough people will say it and Musk gets to carry on with his pwning the libs for personal gain.

He's an absolute bell and far-right to the core, but he's not doing any of this out of ideological zeal. Via twitter he's played kingmaker in the US, and he'll try to do the same for Germany, France and the UK. His $44bn has (in his head) bought him the position of the man who every wannabe right-wing dictator wants to curry favour with, the man who can put anyone in power - in other words, the man of absolute power over all humanity.

aye harmless gesture could be anything

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and talks like a duck, and seig heils like a duck, it's a nazi.

I agree that he's probably not an ideological Nazi, but he's going to have some explaining to do about the gesture if Tesla shares aren't going to take a hit. The Jewish lobbies are unlikely to be too chuffed either.

I reckon he was on drugs.

my only question here, and it's the only important one, is: what will Trump make of this? will this in any way damage their relationship?

Similar situation, I figure. Trump won't care about the salute, only if he gets the feeling Musk is a liability.

Well, the ADL, at least, apparently don't think it's an issue.

Imagine others may take a slightly different view.

Ordinary people can be arrested, harrassed, smeared, fired from their jobs, their careers put on hold or ruined for having their human decency in showing solidarity with the Palestinian people twisted into charges of anti-Semitism by Zionists and their supporters echoed in the mainstream media. When the richest man in the world (it's just luck being born with enough family money to fail without consequence until you make the right connections with other even wealthier people, not because he's a 'genius') performs a salute at an inauguration ceremony for the new US president, there's calls for nuance, nothing to see here, it's a misunderstanding.

Mind you, it reminds me of my school days beginning GCSE history and the sanitised way we were taught about Henry Ford. The great innovator of industrial production and of shaping 20th century modernity, but not the ruthless capitalist and vile anti-Semite who not only used his vast wealth to promote hate through publishing and political sponsorship but was also admired by a certain insecure Austrian painter. My mum was a communist though, so...

On the head rolling, maybe off his head, but just a thought - has he had one of his own brain chips implanted? (Would explain the gamers saying he was online at the time) 🤔
That's not how they work and like he's going anywhere near the fucking things. 😁

He was online at the time cos the people he pays to play games for him were online at the time.

Call me old-fashioned or naive but, on seeing those nazi salutes delivered at Trump's inauguration rally, my mind went straight to my late Grandfather, who survived, and the thousands of American troops who did not survive the landings on the Normandy beaches to defeat fascism. The US cemetery at Coleville-sur-Mer contains the remains and names of around 11,000 US dead, most of whom died during the D-day landings.

Musk's salutes crown a truly shameful day for the US.

fucking hell. The salute is absolutely not ambiguous - and the crowd cheering him on ... just wow.

And I think the ADL have just shat their own bed with that statement - I can see a huge number of jewish people (quite possibly within the ADL itself) been utterly outraged by that.

Anyway, it's just an awkward gesture. Like how he awkwardly tweets out support for far-right political movements at every opportunity he gets.

Along with "interesting" and "look, I am just asking questions", this is classic far-right trolling, especially the non-ideological type that just sets itself up in absoloute contempt of anything left of the centre. The wiggle room allows a get out of jail free card, whilst causing as much "triggering" as possible to the otherside. Insert an element of doubt, and run for cover if need be. with JAQ, the trick is to see that the "questions" are always right wing ones, never ever left. The "interesting" response to a tweet is always on a right leaning tweet, never ever a left. It's a trick that's been around since the early internet. In a twisted sort of way I would have far more respect for him if he just bowled up to the podemium, unleashed some seig heils, said he believes in the supremacy of the white race, and walked off. cowardly 14 year old edgelord.
