Elon Musk - news and discussion

his dad was in a viral clip the other day talking about-as we knew- how elons grandad was a complete goose stepper and they moved to apartheid africa because they liked apartheid and how musk is now embracing his inner south african by going nazi. The apple has not rolled far

Yep, his grandfather was definitely a piece of work

In the nineteen-thirties, he joined the quasi-fascistic Technocracy movement, whose proponents believed that scientists and engineers, rather than the people, should rule. He became a leader of the movement in Canada, and, when it was briefly outlawed, he was jailed, after which he became the national chairman of what was then a notoriously antisemitic party called Social Credit. In the nineteen-forties, he ran for office under its banner, and lost. In 1950, two years after South Africa instituted apartheid, he moved his family to Pretoria, where he became an impassioned defender of the regime.

...In the second tract that M.S.U. holds, “The International Conspiracy in Health,” Haldeman blamed the “collectivist-internationalist” conspiracy—“from Kennedy to Kenyatta”—for “centralized health schemes” that include national health insurance and various pharmaceuticals (including fluoride in the water, another conspiracy), all of which he considered “anti-Christian infringements on human liberties.” If some people were not alarmed by all of this, he wrote, it was because of mind control. “When a Christian subscribes to this, it is the result of the concentrated, intentional brain-washing done by the International Conspiracy.” Submitting to national health care was one way the conspirators were allowing “Black or Coloured political puppets” to take “control of responsible White people.” The Conspiracy, he warned, controls universities, medical schools, and even textbooks. “The Conspiracy feels that any medical intervention, so long as it is in mass, is a desirable procedure.” Above all, “The promoters of World Government have always been behind mass vaccination programmes.”

melon is refusing to hand over the Infowars accounts to The Onion, X reckons they own the accounts, which they probably do. But they don't seem to have exercised that right elsewhere...

On Monday, X filed an objection in The Onion’s bid to buy InfoWars out of bankruptcy. In the objection, Elon Musk’s lawyers argued that X has “superior ownership” of all accounts on X, that it objects to the inclusion of InfoWars and related Twitter accounts in the bankruptcy auction, and that the court should therefore prevent the transfer of them to The Onion.

The legal basis that X asserts in the filing is not terribly interesting. But what is interesting is that X has decided to involve itself at all, and it highlights that you do not own your followers or your account or anything at all on corporate social media, and it also highlights the fact that Elon Musk’s X is primarily a political project he is using to boost, or stifle, specific viewpoints and help his friends. In the filing, X’s lawyers essentially say—like many other software companies, and, increasingly, device manufacturers as well—that the company’s terms of service grant X’s users a “license” to use the platform but that, ultimately, X owns all accounts on the social network and can do anything that it wants with them.

I bet that Xhitter never objected to any other company taking control of Twitter accounts following the acquisition of the company that previously controlled them.

See, I was just thinking:

I wanna throw the apple into the sea*...
I think the apple's rotten right to the core
From all the things passed down
From all the apples coming before

It's a very musically-resonant post!

*could've sworn that was the lyric, but looking it up apparently it's "sky".

I had to look this guy up not being au fait with every individual in the corridors of American power. It would seem he's pissed Musk off and now Musk is making nasty threats:

He's long been in the sights of Trumpists, as regarding the impeachment iirc

whilst i know not the full details, the response from him was great. Like a father walking in on his son who is posting dangerous shite on 4chan.

"Vindman in turn responded on X, tweeting: “Elon, here you go again making false and completely unfounded accusations without providing any specifics. That’s the kind of response one would expect from a conspiracy theorist. What oligarch? What treason? Let me help you out with the facts: I don’t take/have never taken money from any money from oligarchs Ukrainian or other otherwise.”

He added: “You, Elon, appear to believe you can act with impunity and are attempting to silence your critics. I’m not intimidated.”

know what annoys me most about trump/musk etc is that conservatisim doesn't have to be this way. is this the binary we now have to live under? on one hand you have the largely still-the-same left and on the other you have these wrecks, weirdos, digifascists actually representing the other side of the dialetic? it's a gruesome tear in the fabric of political discource. you could say good, this will speed up and quicken the rise of something better for all. but will it? I don't feel particularly comfortable putting my eggs in taht particular basket. is this the end times? - rofl, lol, lmoa, please like and subscribe.

The thing that gets me about the situation is the apparent blindness of the (neo)liberals. They're still largely acting as if conservatives are the same as they were twenty years ago, before they got taken over by memes. It seemed like there was a little spark of recognition in Harris's campaign, but that turned out to be too little, too late. Over here there isn't even any spark, just the same stale platitudes as an excuse to cut services, harry the poor and unemployed and all that shit. It gives me a tension headache just thinking about it.

Twitter is just surely hopelessly compromised as a source of... anything now. There is no good faith mainstream debate there at all, though sadly (and possibly horrifically) Husk's hold on it will keep it a arbiter of actual policy in the US but I'm hoping the rest of the world at least will just consider it Russian-bot compromised bullshit where nothing coming out of it merits attention or response.

Hopefully the fact that Musk is malding over Bluesky like a stroppy teenager means that there's currently a big exodus away from Xhitter:

What really needs to happen is all the mp's/journalists/sports stars/celebs etc need to give up their twitter addiction but sadly most of them don't want to lose their follower numbers count :(
