Elon Musk - news and discussion

I thought he was crazy to not just settle for millions. Guilty at trial, I thought. But nope. Lunacy.

I thought Unsworth would piss it but Mrs Spy called it correctly days ago. For a defamation case to succeed they had to prove reputational damage but Unsworth was given all sorts of awards by the Thai government and an MBE here. Add that to the fact that the defence have convinced the jury that he Musk didn't mean he was literally a paedo but was just insulting him and it's an understandable verdict.

Annoying though.

Isn't there something in defamation law that says the statement has to lower the defamed person in the eyes of right-thinking people? What right-thinking person is going to think Musk is anything but a prick, who spat his dummy out, threw his toys out of the pram and started hurling insults around.
I don't see how any right-thinking person could possibly think less of Unsworth based on anything Musk said.

I wonder if they argued that the guy had "started it" by telling Musk to shove the submarine up his arse in the first place?

Alongside the Jdart defence it could be the "classic bantz" defence

A guy from Unsworth’s UK legal team was interviewed on the Today program this morning on R4. In the US, jury members can be interviewed after the trial. An interview with one of them revealed that they had potentially made a legal mistake in their analysis of the case. The lawyer suggested that there may be a possibility of a retrial.
