Feeling better today, a bit 'heavy armed' but that is all. The vaccinations are worth a fair bit of discomfort though. We wrinklies really do not want this fucking plague. Of course, 'flu is not a barrel of laughs either. Covid lockdowns drove cases way down. I think it is the same vaccine this year, please correct me etc .

Only in part.

Last season:
  • A/Victoria/2570/2019 (H1N1) pdm09
  • A/Wisconsin/588/2019 (H1N1) pdm09
  • A/Cambodia/e0826360/2020 (H3N2)
  • B/Washington/02/2019 (B/Victoria lineage)
  • B/Phuket/3073/2013 (B/Yamagata lineage)

This is the same as the 2022 southern hemisphere season choices which apparently were a pretty good match.

Thank you. Which four are in this year's mix?

Had both on Saturday morning. Felt really shit last night with a high temperature but not been too bad today.
Thought I might be ok but had a really bad night wasn't cold until I went to bed took ages to get to sleep and woke up feeling absolutely rotten. Got a gig tonight I've been looking forward to for ages, no way did I expect to feel this bad three days after.

Had the Pfizer yesterday. I woke up at 1.30 this morning sneezing a lot. Now I'm feeling slightly sluggish but that could be lack of sleep rather than side effects

I'm still a bit groggy today after both jabs yesterday. I had an early night with a couple of paracetamol and that helped. Nothing major though, should be alright by tomorrow, I'd imagine.

Another duff text from the NHS ...
All I need is the correct text from the surgery half a mile away for being over 50 and healthy and the ability to respond with a text.
Doubtless it will arrive at some point.
I'm not worried as I wear an FFP2 in Aldi once a week and will not be accepting my sister's annual invite to her 4 generation pox party.

EDIT:-

An improvement on last time. If I humour the online system and say I may be at increased risk, they're apparently doing vaccinations at the Hindu temple down the road and I can book an appointment for Friday ... I'm not in the mood for it at the moment ... on principle I may wait until I'm actually entitled to one. (I will probably want to have a bath before I go in any case)

Thinking about it, not only is the Temple a lot closer than the GP surgery, it will be a useful way to stay well away from my overly pro-active practice.

-----------------------------

And right on cue a silly letter from the surgery reminding me of my missed "birthday review" and saying I should PHONE them to stop them sending me letters. (I am not on any medication and they have my ridiculously good results from last year - and I have no intention of letting them near me again unless I manage to get to a BMI of 23 and find myself cycling 100k for fun)

The last bit of crazy shit was that I used 111 callback for antibiotics that successfully fixed my UTI and the surgery told me the pee sample had no bacteria, but had a miniscule amount of blood in it - needless to say I did not drop off a second pee sample as requested to pander to their kidney disease theory - in 2019 they briefly went down a "low testosterone" rabbithole ...

have had a text from GP inviting me to go along today for flu and covid jabs.

i think i'm coming down with something (slight sniffle and cough, and general crappy feeling) - it's probably not a good idea, is it?

when you get jabs they ask if you have symptoms - i presume if you say Yes they send you home? otherwise why would they ask

Not yet. Still waiting for the website to allow the 50 to 65 age group (with no medical conditions) to book.

Down here I was pleased to be invited to book my jabs at the beginning of September. (Late 50s, type 2).. the appointment is on 2 November. Seems a bit daft to me, booking so far ahead. Guess I’d rather still know I’m on the list.

I just got the Autumn booster text and went to book it via the website. Answered all the questions and it said I'm not eligible. Could just be a time lag of systems not catching up with each other, or summat. Anyway, should be easy enough to sort a walk in somewhere.
Incidentally, it's still the case that when I go on the booking site and answer all the questions (are you a front line health worker/pregnant/etc.) it still says I'm ineligible for the booster (having received a text saying I am eligible). It's not a problem, I could do a walk in, just haven't got it sorted yet. Same time it is a bit of a system flaw and will put some people off going.

Does anyone know how/if I can get a booster? I'm not in the eligible age group but would really like one.

At the clinic I went to, the first question was "do you have an appointment or are you a walk-in?" - I had to tick an eligible category on the form, but I think at least one of them might have vague enough to cover walk-ins (something like 'living with a vulnerable person' or 'high contact with vulnerable people'). Definitely worth an ask if you're up for that.

eta this is in an area with fairly low vaccine uptake, might not be the case elsewhere.

Since I've now lost the advantage of age, I suppose I'd better get my finger out - perhaps having a bath will make me more enthusiastic.
I've always wanted to visit the Hindu temple ...

Are there any plans to extend further Covid boosters towards people under 50 with no particular health conditions? I know that older and more vulnerable groups must have priority in these things, but I'm quite disturbed by the radio silence on the subject of jabs for the rest of us. It's not like this virus has in itself become any less deadly since the last time my age group was given the jab, now has it?

None that I've heard of in public (and I dont have access to any behind closed doors stuff if it did exist). My assumption is that they wont expand it unless something else changes that spoils their numbers game, eg a new variant that scared them, a wave size that scared them. I dont know if they would consider it if they happen to end up wtih large amounts of spare supply/free vaccination centre slots, and if such a circumstance did arise they would probably still feel the need to find some other rationale to justify the expansion.

Like so much else in the pandemic its largely a numbers game as far as authorities and their plans go. And hospitalisation and death risk is strongly linked to age, and when such decisions made there is always going to be a cutoff point set somewhere, based on these numbers games, never mind if certain individuals are still left vulnerable as a result, just so long as its not too many of them for the system to cope.

if anyone wants a vaccine but isnt currently 'eligible' follow this link
Visit Book or manage a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination
and when it gets to the question 'are you vulnerable' answer Yes.
That should do it!

I'm of the view that ongoing boosters should be available for all either every six months, or at the beginning of the 'flu season.

Set up dedicated vaccination clinics with dedicated staff. Training takes five minutes, it is after all an IM injection into the deltoid muscle.

We always had adrenaline pre-drawn in the fridge, in case of anaphylaxis. (The anaphylaxis rate is 2.5 to 11.1 per million doses for Covid vaccines)

Yes it has, because you've now had three jabs instead of two. The deadliness-reducing ability of a fourth jab in a healthy under 50-year old is not so clear.

I wonder how much it costs to provide a covid vaccination? You can get a flu jab if you are under 50 for £16.99 at Boots, maybe they will start selling covid ones.

Just had an email telling me that my fourth jab is due on 29 October at 14.10
Mrs Q took me for the first two and Eldest Q took me for the third but this is a Saturday and walking distance so unless the weather is bad I will probably have a leisurely stroll there and back (with 15 min wait in the middle after jab if need be).
I have had 2 AZ's and a Pfizer so far and had no reaction at all to any of them so we will see what I get this time.

I suspect the cost per dose must be peanuts the number they ship surely the bulk of that is labour and profit.
