2016 Coup in Turkey?

I got this through a friend on Facebook so not sure how accurate it is.

Quick point on Turkey:

Most people don't realize this but there are three major factions that in various ways vie for power.

The first is Erdogan and AKP (Justice & Development Party) which is in the milieu of the Muslim Brotherhood. It is close to those same networks and pursues MB policies, representing the typical petit bourgeois class that MB always represents.

The second is the Kemalist Turkish nationalists. They are historically connected to the Turkish military and deep state, similar to Egypt. They have historically been friendly with NATO while maintaining a somewhat friendly attitude to neighbors and Russia.

The third is the faction around Fetullah Gulen, the super-rich Turkish businessman who runs one of the world's largest charter school and private school networks. He is very close to the CIA and has been more or less at war with Erdogan for the last few years.
These three factions have been fighting for power for a while now, and it is these conflicts that really drove Erdogan to consoldiate his power as he has, and implement the draconian laws that have created Turkey's police state.
There's much more to this story, but I'll have to put it all together in a piece as it's too much for a post right now.

Erdogan supporters literally taking their belts to them!

Another post shared by a friend on Facebook. Written last night around 23:30 UK time, so pretty early in events of last night. Seems insightful and presents a picture of unpleasantness to come.

So, my special friend in Istanbul says this, despairingly: "Most probably a real coup attempt, which was vaguely known beforehand, and was allowed to proceed, because they knew it to be disorganised and weak. This means it will be followed by a real coup by Erdoğan himself, and the last remnants of democracy will be lost. So worse becomes the worst. The Kurdish movement and all of us in the opposition will be targeted in the coming days. A civilian brown-shirt movement is already in the making, and this will rule the streets once the so-called coup is defeated in a couple of days". So frightening!

Turkey is about to turn into more of a basketcase state, crackdown, loss of rights, coruption, and splinter groups ready to cause havoc.

Wouldn't surprise me if these soldiers were duped into mounting a coup so that Erdogan gets an excuse to grab more powers.

Half ..or more..of those cunts have most likely spent the last few years chopping heads off Syrian conscripts . There's reports some of those soldiers were flung off the bridge. And possibly worse .

That in itself could lead to another proper coup in future..if there's anyone left in the army to carry it out once the sultan has finished his purge. This inept business seems more like a tremor rather than the real thing .
Erdogan has actually called it " a gift from God " . Turkey is about to go into a very dark place . No doubt about that .

True. Good point. The much more surprising thing is that thousands of civilians were willing to come out in support of Erdogan against armed soldiers & tanks, isn't it.

Not really. These will have been organised " civilians " . Muslim brotherhood, Grey Wolves, all sorts of Islamists and the like . Many, if not all , of whom have been very active in Syria . Erdogan and his cronies have always feared a coup. These contingencies will have been long in the making . Imams were wailing away from virtually every minaret in the country for people to go on the streets.

Some speculation on my part: please tell me if it's an hysterical overreaction, or a likely (or even just possible) scenario.

Erdogan will now use his political capital to kill off Kemalism as the hegemonic, official ideology of Turkey - 'kill off' both metaphorically and literally.

Of course. He's called this a gift from God . He's over the moon at what he can do next . Ecstatic. Which would make you wonder whether this inept venture is truly as it seems . The Internet wasn't shut down . Power wasn't turned off. Erdogan was missed , as were all the rest of his leading figures. Seems to have been next to no backbone in it at all . There may have been a nudge or 2 of encouragement behind this I reckon . It was way too inept and he was way too lucky. And way too confident way too soon . Very fishy . And the people hell go after now will be those who could mount a serious challenge to him but didn't .
