What new foods have you tried recently?

I understand that, I have a deep phobia and anxiety about the thought of having parasites (along with phobias of heights, enclosed spaces, some insects, needles and other medical stuff) at myself.

Oof, that's a lot :( In that case I will pm you farmer if there's any :hmm: untoward movement.

Do adults have worm problems? I know there's stuff for kids, but would it be worth occasionally de-worming as an adult?

Only if you actually have worms, I wouldn't suggest taking medication otherwise. If in doubt you should get a stool sample to your doctor who will tell you whether it is necessary, not just pop some nasty anti-parasite chemical pills just in case.

If you do contract worms it's nothing much to worry about - I got them when I was a kid and a short course of deworming tablets sorted them out.

My kids (being grubby, hating the nail clippers and spending a lot of time outdoors) have them allll the time, hence the family sized bottle of Ovex in the cupboard  I read somewhere that adults often have them but don't feel them, so when the kids have them we all need to dose ourselves. So I don't think it's a problem dessiato if you do have them, unless you get itchy. Boak. <scratches bum neurotically>

What sort of things are your kids doing to get worms all the time? I've never had worms, that sounds really odd tbh!
No criticism intended but aren't you worried about dosing them with anti-parasitic medications when it may not be needed?

The product guidance recommends treating the whole family if one member has worms.

Care should be taken to avoid re-infection and it is strongly recommended that all members of the family are treated at the same time.

Makes sense given how they are transmitted.

I really don't know mate, I've never had worms in my life (and I have worked with horses and other animals), no-one in my family has ever had worms, and I am completely confused by any notion of regularly dosing children with medications to deal with parasites, it just seems really odd.

No idea, though some studies suggest schools are teeming with the eggs. I had them a lot as a child. Poor hand washing? Dunno, they just seem to be one of those things that some kids get - whereas mine have never had nits, despite regular outbreaks at school. I don't dose them when it's not needed, not sure where that idea came from. They get worms, I dose them, and in accordance with instructions, also dose myself and husband. I usually keep a bottle of the meds handy because worms become irritating at night, when there are no shops open.

Are you sure they actually have worms though? Because it sounds more like anxiety about worms.

I have never taken worm medication in my life, most people I know have never taken it, and it seems like it might be an anxiety thing to be worrying about it so much and using medication for it regularly.

Yes I fucking am. FFS. Worms are reasonably common in kids. I'm trying not to get pissed off here but the insinuation that I give my kids medicine when it's not needed really is something else. Would you like me to tell you in detail about how I know when they have worms??

But I've never had them, where are they coming from?

I am not trying to insinuate anything but I am just not familiar at all with this idea that you have to regularly take worm medication, it's a completely new idea for me and I am a bit surprised by it tbh.

Should I go get some worm meds? I've never taken any so by your reckoning I am probably riddled with them at this point.

EDIT: I am not trying to do or be anything here, I am just completely confused because I had a really crappy childhood but I don't ever recall worms or worming medication being a part of it. I do recall my brother got nits once and the treatment for that.

You don't. Where are you getting this idea from?? Certainly not me. You take medication if and when you have worms.

You might be riddled, I have no idea - I casually mentioned upthread that I have read that many adults have them but aren't affected by them. If you are worried, you can google, I'm sure, to find ways to check. They're probably not for a food thread.

I'm leaving this conversation now.

I'm not worried, I am just confused - it isn't something I have ever worried about.

Should I be worried? I am feeling a bit worried now - it has never crossed my mind before.

Certainly when I was a kid we weren't regularly given worming pills like we were cats or something.

Are they really that common? Don't leave the thread, please, I am just very very confused about this whole thing.

Kids get worms Epona - move on

I'm only querying it because I never ever had any treatment for such things as a kid and am now worried that was yet another form of neglect - please don't have a go at me about it, I am actually feeling a little bit confused and upset here. (and I have a bit of a phobia about internal parasites - please don't look at what I have posted as being nasty, it is more based on fear)

Well, only 50% of the population has had worms. So you're in the other half. Though the 50% is meant to be a low estimate.

Honestly I had a very strange upbringing Orang Utan and polly - I am not having a go at anyone, I have just never heard of this before (I have of course heard of worms but I thought it was a very rare thing) and am shocked is all.

If I ever say "WHAT???" about something it is probably due to the way I was treated as a kid, and I don't always understand supposedly normal stuff, plus I am autistic - so please try to bear with me and not be too scathing. :(

(I do get quite upset when there is stuff that I don't understand that other people think is normal - And now I am freaking out that I might have worms)

Vegan baconnaise, vegan pork pies. Surprisingly good. The baconnaise is particularly moreish.

I'm quite glad that the full force of industrial food science has turned onto vegan food, but I wonder what could be achieved by trying to come up with new things rather than mimicking meat.
