West Ham 2022-23: The Road to Prague

What’s going wrong for youse?
Loads of players are really out of form, we're not running or chasing any more snd I'm not sure why. Should have more points than we do but we're not able to score at the moment. Plus trying to integrate the new players, Moyes doesn't seem to know what to do with them.

5 points clear in the conference group, looking good for the knockout stages again.

Scamacca is something special. Great technique, strong, eye for goal, been really impressed with him.

Scamacca again! 3 lovely goals in a week. The forwards are starting to click now just as the defence starts to look a bit weak. I suppose it just takes a while for Kehrer and Emerson to get in sync with the others.

Southampton, Liverpool, Bournemouth and ManU left in October. With a bit of luck I can see us around 7th-ish by November with Brighton falling away a bit.

That was weird. Decent atmosphere at the start - had a little lightshow and the Anderlecht fans were setting off flares in their end. But it all died once we scored the goals, only to get a little bit of a revival later when the fans all started kicking off with each other and they got their penalty. First half I thought we played really well, second half was just going through the motions.

I just want Moyes to have more confidence in the players. Theyre a good team and looked it in the 2nd half last night but he seems convinced that if we have a go, he'll be humiliated. Even so, shouldve got a point against Chelsea and Liverpool now.
It'll be the same at ManUtd I suppose but 7 or 9pts against Leicester, Palace and Bournemouth please.

Yeah, second half we had a bit more confidence, went for it a bit more and we had chances. First half we sat back and tried to soak it up. He does it every time and i don't know why. We've been playing alright, just seems to be one of those seasons where everything goes against you. Forest, Chelsea, Liverpool, Southampton - should have got more out of all of those games.

Sounded a bit drab on the radio but 3 points is the main thing.
Our shooting stats are such that if this was on FM my assistant manager would be recommending we try playing the ball into the area instead of shooting from distance.

Sky sports planning committee

"OK, so we've got Man Utd against West Ham on Sunday. Who shall we have as co-commentator?"
"The famous Man Utd full back Gary Neville, obviously. He'll go absolutely mad any time Man Utd pass the ball more than two feet"
"OK great, when we cut back to the studio who shall we talk to about the game? Maybe a chance to get a bit of balance?"
"um.. What about ex Man Utd striker Louis Saha?"
"yeah, perfect, what shall we talk about?"
"Man Utd?"

All very predictable really. Without Paqueta Scamacca ends up coming quite deep to be more of a #10 and Bowen and Benny are not in great scoring form. Benny looking confident anyway.
I am expecting 4 wins in November and then a slight rejig in Jan transfer window.

Couple of great saves from De Gea to keep them ahead but nothing we haven't seen before already this season.

First club EVER to have a perfect record in Europa Conference group stage.

Can't take that away from us.

Scarles looked great.

This is all very Tevez and Msscherano. We seem to be a team who get loads worse if you add a couple of world class players. Moyes better sort it out quick or they'll do the next phase (which is get in some fashionable foreign coach which then goes tits up before they go back to a Moyes or Allardyce type).

Knew it was going to be a last minute winner as soon as we scored.

We've gone from Everton Moyes to ManU Moyes in one season. He did a great job with limited resources and a small squad but now he doesn't know what to do with his fancy players. Its all a bit depressing at the moment but the middle of the league is so tight it could really go either way. I don't think he'll get the boot mid-season but if we finish up 15th or so and Rice goes for £100m I would prefer someone else to spend the money.

let's look at the stats

isn't it strange that moyes had a higher win % at man u than everton? everyone seems to forget that.

9 and 16 March 2023, we'll play the winners of one of these.
I think the highlighted ones would be practical to get to.

Qarabag (Azerbaijan) vs Gent (Belgium)
Trabzonspor (Turkey) vs FC Basel (Switzerland)
Lazio
(Italy) vs FC Cluj (Romania)
Bodo/Glimt (Norway) vs Lech Poznań (Poland)
Braga (Portugal) vs Fiorentina (Italy)
AEK Larnaca (Cyprus) vs Dnipro (Ukraine)
Sheriff (Moldova) vs FK Partizan (Serbia)
Ludogorets (Bulgaria) vs Anderlecht (Belgium)

Vastly different sample sizes, doesnt really take league positions and expectations into account...so I dont know what thats supposed to prove
it's supposed to prove that he wasn't quite the washout at man u that most people, like you, think. even with the rather larger 'sample size' at west ham, he's a rather higher win % than he enjoyed at everton, about 4 percentage points higher.

sure, expectations and league positions may differ. but i don't understand what your 'the man u moyes' is supposed to mean unless you're having a dig. doesn't know what to do with all the fancy players? he seemed to know ok at man u

Unfortunately for Moyes, ManU dont evaluate success by how far ahead of West Ham they finish

my point being that in his time at manchester utd - in the season you were rubbishing - he did significantly better than the west ham of the time. i don't suppose you'd be too unhappy with seventh this season. still curious about why you brought everton in this. but there you go

I reckon you're a bit confused her Pickman. Whilst his job at United was difficult due to the transition he should probably have done better than he did. That United team had just won the title.

I like Moyes and hope he can turn it around. Would hope West Ham are patient.

Moyes is a good manager and has generally done better at West ham than his previous clubs. The man u thing to me shows he can do better yet - the man u players seemed to me to resent him and his time there was complicated by ferguson still hanging around. But yeh I hope he's allowed to continue, I've always had a soft spot for West ham and don't think they'd find much better managers atm and many worse

Congratulations to Argentina on their WC win, but it took an ex-Hammer to guide them to the victory!
