US election 2020 thread

belboid doesn't Vermont have a lot of rural areas though which are more conservative? Seems a bit weird to say he has won without counting any votes? What are they basing it on?

Georgia's looking interesting. BBC are reporting pretty much all Trump-supporting demographics are down.

One of the lower level oddities of US elections is the polls closing so early. 7pm?? Bloody part-timers
In 2000, I had a colleague from rural Louisiana. She reckoned it was all part of the 'discouraging certain demographics to vote' thing. So if you have to drive a couple of hours to get to a polling station (apparently reasonably common where she was from), you need a car. And you need the time off work if the polling stations close early. And if you're in a low-paid job, you're less likely to be able to get the time off work so you're less likely to vote. (Apparently unions used to negotiate time off to go and vote for exactly those reasons but with the waning power of unions, that went by the wayside in many industries.)

From what I've come to learn about US elections, would not surprise me in the slightest. It's so brazen and calculated, it's disgusting.

Yeah, we were all pretty astonished when she was explaining this to us (and obviously we were interested anyway but being 2000, it was all even more interesting than usual) and she was 🤷‍♀️ -- it's shit but that's how it is.

ETA She was also very surprised that our polling stations were open for such long hours (at that point it was 6am to 10pm here).

I think that's the democrats most impactful angle if they ever take all 3 branches - make voting piss easy. Shitloads of location, and make it a national holiday. It reads well with the man-on-the-street.

Why have some parts of Florida seemed to go for Roque de la Fuente etc or is it just that the minor candidates votes get counted first?
