US election 2020 thread

Are you including republican voters in that? Because I know a few former republican voters who aren't just concerned about the party, but about Trump.
I'd wonder what people who happily voted for GW Bush but feel 'concerned' about Trump are concerned about tbh.

Comedic interlude. Sketch on the debacle of the Omaha rally:

TBF, I think the problem with the rally and the weather is that it was somewhat unexpected. Some of them probably didn't plan for how cold it was. It was the first cold snap of the season and a quite a bit colder than average for October. (It still wasn't 10 degrees F. It was more like 27 or so.) Add to that the fact that a lot of people who attend his rallies are extremely elderly and it was a recipe for disaster.

Surely it's quite a stretch to put (say) people with pre-existing conditions and on low salaries, self-employed people struggling to get healthcare, undocumented immigrants, peoplewho benefit from DACA, DREAMers, young women needing an abortion and members of the LGBTQ+ community, all in the same bracket as old guard country club Republicans?

but they really did exist!!!!!!!

"On Wednesday night’s show, Tucker Carlson reported that his team had acquired incriminating documents. However, they sent them from Washington to Los Angeles, and the documents disappeared. And they neglected to make any copies. So now the only copy of the documents that would nail the probable next President of the United States are gone"

This last sentence from the above is dripping with pisstake :D :

That just shows how desperate Biden is to make this story disappear and in no way reflects poorly on the credibility of the sources of this alleged scandal.

Republicans = incompetent twats! :p

The dog ate my homework miss, honestly it really did.

That's a lot of Trump ads in Georgia and North Carolina

Is this just spending on TV ads? There’s a lot more goes on these days, where does social media skullduggery get accounted, bearing in mind a lot of it likely isn’t funded directly by the Trump campaign? How is it measured?

Pretty much confirmation of not getting any result from PA on the night when some counties are doing this:

Pre-canvassing is preparing mail ballots for tallying - removing them from their outer envelopes, scanning etc. They can't do this until election day in PA by law so counties short on resources are just not going to bother, run the election on the 3rd and then start on the absentee ballots the next morning

How not to produce a 'smoking gun' story

well yes, precisely. For populists, they seem incredibly keen on making sure people don't vote. Or have I misunderstood what populsim actually is?
Yes I think you have. Populism is not about simply voting, in fact a frequent (and correct) cry of populists is the liberal representative democratic system is not representing the people properly, indeed that (and again they are correct on this points) liberalism is fundamentally about limiting the power of the people. Populism seeks political power for the interests of "the people", in practice it seeks power via reform of the existing system but it sees that system as one that is flawed.

Surely this makes Trump's and the GOP's (or the GOP as it currently stands) brand of right-populsim as a huge (but brilliantly done) con trick, as they have absolutely no intention of truly spreading power to the people or taking it back to them, but on execising it themsleves, in the name of 'the people' but as a new authoritarian elite?
e2a: and indeed invoking 'the people' to give themselves unlimited power

I struggle to think of a 'populist' whose intentions were otherwise, tbh. The appeal over and above existing processes is never done because the person seeking to be leader thinks the current system gives leaders too much power.
