US election 2020 thread

Ah I’ve found it, Sidneys bit. Same as she was saying days ago, nothing new. Venezuela. Servers. The cia.
I made the mistake of looking at the comments, from her supporters. They are ecstatic , don’t care at all about evidence just that she says trump won by a landslide and something about communists. It’s tempting to find her funny but her impact is not, is genuine harm.

This is the thing. They do not give a single solitary shit for truth, integrity, evidence, any if the stuff that holds society together.

Ironic that it is likely to be a self-described 'conservative Republican', Brad Raffensperger, who will do most to burst this bubble of bullshit in the immediate future. Georgia had these Dominion machines. The hand count will match the machine count.

Do you honestly think if they match exactly that that will change a single persons mind that communist gangsters stole the election?

Do you think she herself believes what she’s saying? In her case i do think so.

They believe in their cause sufficiently to squash any doubt. And if you were to present any kind of argument that might open a chink in their thinking they'll come after you personally. You become the enemy.

It's not about that right at this moment, though. Shaming senior Republicans into making statements against it is the immediate thing. Isolate them.

I read that Rudy is charging $20,000 a day for his services to the republic. Maybe not mad.
Well yes, it did occur to me that he was in it for the money. I find it hard to believe that he needs the money, though. His own daughter hates him now. He's made himself a public laughing stock.

Why do you think that’s the most important thing right now? I think it’s too late for that, could have been important if they did it last week.

Who and how though.

I agree with you. But I'm trying to imagine career politicians who rely on the machine for their life, livelihood, sense of self etc to break ranks and try to pull together enough strength to break this.

Trump and his orcs have embedded themselves. Everyone who wants to stand up against this will have find their own personal way to break out of this abusive relationship, and do it in the hope that others will too.

You're not going to easily change the minds of the people who actually believe this rubbish. But there are plenty of Republican public figures who don't believe any of it, of course. Do they seriously think that developing these fault lines will bring them victory in 2024? Trump could easily bring them down with him.

It's going to take a high-profile murder of some kind to crash this train, isn't it? :(

It’s too late for that. Whether they are terrified of the voters or the trump or whatever reason they missed the chance to stem that fissure a long time ago. Damage is done now, them suddenly finding a backbone would not change anything, imo.

And if they go against Trump they could lose half (or more) of their vote in 2024. Or if things go really badly face a show trial in 2021. There might be something to be said for shutting up but there's no clear advantage for the republicans to shutting Trump down. But just keep putting your faith in lawyers and right wing politicians.

wtf is that supposed to mean? idiotic misrepresentation of what I said. I do think Biden should act more forcefully. And I do think many Republicans are fucking themselves in the longer term by siding with Trump right now. You may disagree. Fine. But fuck off with that faith in the system crap.

The idea of Trump staying on and show trials next year is still absurd. That won't happen.

But that's been your line for the last three weeks. Just ignore him and the lawyers will make it go away. You've just said in this post that your solution is for Biden to act more 'forcefully' (he will, but against Iran, not Trump). You can't turn round in the next sentence and claim to be anti establishment. You're getting wronger by the day.

Okay. I've just WhatsApp ed with my brother, who lives in NY. He's not especially bothered, says this press conference is not being widely covered (yet, anyway), flags are coming down, it's a vocal minority, no one else is paying attention.

Numbers at the million maga march were 10-20,000, no more.

Trump had a meeting with his legal team last week and they told him he's fucked and they don't have a case. Rudy offered to save him for 20K /day so Trump sacked his team and hired Rudy.

My brother isn't worried, and nor is anyone else I've spoken to. So either they're frogs in hot water or I'm over-reacting.

I’m no longer worried that trump will somehow succeed in staying president, but this whole thing is the starkest iteration I’ve seen so far of how there’s no longer any such thing as a shared baseline reality, based on facts or anything else, and that’s what’s really scary. I’ll not be able to laugh at Qanon anymore ever, because look what it can do.
