US election 2020 thread

It is so totally on character that Trump seems to be finishing his presidency conning people out of money 'for legal fees' for imaginary vote rigging that's actually at least 50% paying for campaign debts Trump Fundraising for Legal Challenges Would Also Pay Down Debt - WSJ.com

Husband and I were discussing that we hope he just sulks on the golf course for the next two months as he has done since ysterday - best for everyone.

More on the four seasons debacle:

But not all in the neighborhood were so amused. The 78-year-old employee manning the counter at the Fantasy Island sex shop, who declined to give his name, said the phone had been ringing off the hook since Saturday with callers asking: “Is Rudy Giuliani there?”
:D

Interesting read, ta :)
...though theres a narrative in there that Trump promised populist economic policies and the Republican guard stopped him from enacting them...Trump may have promised them did he have any intention of enacting them? its impossible to know for certain, but im doubtful

I've been reading about the get out the vote effort of the Navajo and Hopi nations. If you recall, the Navajo have been very hard hit by Covid 19. When they asked for help with supplies the Trump Administration sent native tribes body bags.

For only the second time in the last 70 years, Arizona voters went for the Democratic candidate for president, and Navajo voters contributed to the swing.

Apache, Navajo and Coconino counties, the three that overlap the Navajo Nation, went solidly for Joe Biden, with 73,954 votes compared to just 2,010 for incumbent President Donald Trump — a 97 percent turnout for Biden compared to 51 percent statewide. (Note: all the votes are not yet counted and all results listed are unofficial.)

Looking closely at the Arizona returns, it appears that it was the Navajo who put Biden over the top and helped flip Arizona.

The moral of the story is don't fuck with the Navajo.

I vaguely remember that doctors without borders going into a first nation region to help them with the covid.

Is this the area that they went to?

Its a bit dark, what trump appears to have planned , multiple rallies to the faithful over how the elections were rigged in the states he lost , with a call to arms , and funds , to undermine the "fake" deep state backed Binden administration .

It's not entirely surprising though is it? I still think his support will bleed away pretty quickly, if we were going to see a mass insurgency it would have been during the endless election night.

The only reason trump and his cronies are targeting Pittsburgh and Philadelphia as corrupt is a blatant, racist ploy due to the make up of those cities populations and administrations. He couldn’t be a more obvious racist if he was wearing a white hood.

Mike Davis wades in on the democrats post-mortem with a piece in the LRB

"Millions of green energy jobs’ is an abstraction that utterly fails to connect to the concrete circumstances of Rustbelt and inner-city communities. Mainstream Democrats have had more than a generation to respond to the simple question: what will you do to increase job opportunities here in Erie (or Warren, Dubuque, Lorraine, Wilkes-Barre and so on)? They have never offered a serious response. Concrete solutions would involve geographically targeted public investment, control over capital flight and financial outflows, and, above all, a massive expansion of public employment. These are avenues most Democrats are too terrified to go down."

yeah, this is really good - I read it last night and meant to share it here but fell asleep instead.

Cheers, v interesting

AZ continues to narrow (around 0.5% difference now - 16,000ish votes - but still doesn't look like enough to save the President there

Any insight into why NC hasn’t been called for Trump? 1.4% lead with 2% to go is a hell of a margin — it requires an 85-15 win for Biden for the remaining ballots. And the later counts have actually broken the other way.

I think the emphasis is on the grifting side , trumps got a lot of interest only loans coming to term fairly soon , plus some big legal bills in his defence , any violence will just mean free media bonus coverage , hes increased his base to 72 million , thats a lot of potential punters to rinse .

Bindens going to make a mistake if he goes down the reconciliation route with trump , "for the sake of the country "

They don't actually KNOW how many ballots are left to count because they're waiting for the stragglers to come in - state law says they wait until the 12th for these

That's why you'll see ">98%", it's shorthand for "mostly done but some left to count"

Probably the news agencies just don't give a shit any more and/or are relcutant to give Trump anything to be less miserable about.

Why Trump's appeal was wider than you (or I) may have expected: it's the economy stupid - or at least people's perception of the economy and their place in it

The absurdity is priceless and the ridicule deserved. I bet whatever admin minion in the Trump team made the booking is getting it in the neck.
