US election 2020 thread

i didn't realize how heavily all this was weighing on me. for the past three weeks or so i've had evidence of ulcerous activity which i put down to work stress, and that's a plausible explanation, but i now think four years of having trump in the atmosphere and the uncertainty of the election in particular added to that.

Man, sorry to hear that, but yeah, take a breath eh? :)

Think we all ought to take a moment to imagine how our US community feel ... anyone seen Yuwipi Woman ? Love to you all.

Congratulations on having an electoral system that makes our test & trace system look speedy by comparison.

I'm not certain that being speedy is really the desired result sometimes. I've noticed that the slow rollout of Biden winning has allowed some of the Trump supporters to take it in a piece at a time. I'm hoping that will mean a little less violence over the next couple of months, although I'm certain there will be some from the hardcore conspiracy theorists.

Today is my partner's Liza's birthday. All she's said she ever wanted for her birthday is for Trump to lose. The fact it's taken 4 days and happened on her birthday is just...serendipity. She's now having the best birthday ever. And steak.

Yes in a couple of months the delays will be forgotten, it's the result that's important.

The garden centre thing is just...weird.
I think its great that despite the pandemic the garden centres of Philadelphia remain open and full marks to Trump for recognising their importance in this time of crisis.
The idea that stuff at garden centres can be put off for a month or all ordered online is just wrong because that's not how gardening works. I'm still not sure they should be open except for pick-ups and trade purchases. But if an exception is made for something other than supermarkets, this is one of the least-bad ones.

When I heard Biden's speech last night I felt a little bit lighter. It was similar to jumping from a very hot frypan, into a slightly less hot frypan. Maybe we'll just simmer a while, instead of burning.

It's interesting to hear you say that. I thought a couple of days ago that a narrow and drawn-out victory for Biden might be one of the worst outcomes because it could encourage some of the more hot-headed Trumpanzees to reach for their guns, but so far that hasn't really happened. Perhaps seeing him flailing around like an overweight, overturned orange turtle* has taken the wind out of their sails a bit?

* thanks CNN

Yeah, just texted my best mate in the US and it started "I know this doesn't really fix anything ..." but it does feel like a tiny light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank fuck for that. Those tweets are hysterical :D Wheel the fucker on, let's have a last look at his cat's arse mouth as he pouts through a hideously embarrassing press conference. Proper brightened 2020 that.
It's one of those apprentice moments, where Alan sugar shakes his head and says he doesn't want to hear any more then raises his hand, points at djt, and says 'you're fired'

BTW, I noticed that overnight all of the Trump signs disappeared. They were replaced in some cases with the local football team.

I did see one lone Toyota Prius driving around with an American flag stuck out the driver's side window today. Probably a Democrat.
oh that is seriously good news, trump signs coming down :thumbs: i suppose it means those people are not interested at all when trump bangs on about how the fight has only just begun.
