US election 2020 thread

I don't really understand the 'curing' thing tbh. What does that involve exactly?
It means that there was something wrong with the form making the vote invalid. But voters can check online to see if this has happened to their vote (ballots have a tracking number), and put it right if they choose (e.g. by adding a missing signature). The ballot is then "cured".

Also handy if you decide you voted for the wrong guy, you can just not cure it and it gets binned

e2a the "curing"
It happens here too, the postal ballots are scanned in and computer says no if they don't exactly match
A human is needed to check them and put back in yes pile
That's not curing in the same way. In the USA a voter cures their own ballot after they cast it by, by resolving whatever the issue was.

Recount territory is within 0.5% I think so pretty mich guaranteed.
Correct, 0.5% is the benchmark so it's happening. I assume the Georgia Secretary of State's statement earlier saying it was going to happen was based on doing their sums and confirming that the gap couldn't open any wider than that

Those results that came through were Gwinnett County btw, another Atlanta suburb

I wasnt clued up on him so I checked his wikipedia entry and I think he has suitable form to the extent it would probably have been more surprising if he hadnt made that sort of video.

As public information officer, Higgins made videos for the parish Crime Stoppers program. He first used standard scripts, but began to improvise in his own style, appealing to suspects to surrender and sometimes threatening them by name. His videos went viral, and in 2015 he was described by national media as the "Cajun John Wayne" for his intimidating persona.

Higgins also made a video for the state police, with a script that prompted protests from suspects' families and the ACLU. He resigned from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office in February 2016. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz had warned him against using disrespectful and demeaning language about suspects. The Sheriff had ordered him to "Tone down his unprofessional comments on our weekly Crime Stoppers messages".

The gap's so large now it's kind of hard to see Trump making it up unless he wins some extraordinarily wide margin of the outstanding votes and/or there's some weird discrepancy uncovered by the recount

Interesting what Trump's niece had to say on tonight's Channel 4 News.
