US election 2020 thread

Been covered. Unlike in other states, late mail-ins are not necessarily pro-Biden, and lots of registered Republicans among the remaining votes to be counted. I'm not banking on Arizona. I'm more hopeful now about Pennsylvania.
Bloke on Sky just now pointing out that Trump supporters outside the counting offices in Arizona were chanting "COUNT THE VOTE, COUNT THE VOTE!", whilst those outside the offices in Pennsylvania are shouting "STOP THE COUNT, STOP THE COUNT!" :D

Excitingly, Sen David Perdue in Georgia is on 50.1% of the vote there... Georgia state law requires that winning candidates gain over 50% of the vote or face a run off election with their closest challenger - so if these Atlanta/Savannah votes go as heavily to John Ossoff as they look like being for Joe Biden then BOTH Georgia Senate races will be going to a run off election in January.
North Carolina's race is also frozen waiting for the final ballots to be counted and less than 100k (<2%) between Tillis and Cunningham.
Alaska race uncalled, mail in ballots being counted so Al Gross may catch up a little with GOP incumbent Dan Sullivan.

Currently the Senate is 48-48

Yep, totally fair. And not unique to the US either. You're right that we expect a winner when we wake up in the morning - and said winner takes charge straight away of course.
Even when there are multiple elections on the same day, we get given separate ballot papers for each and it's not THAT many. I think next May we're gonna be asked to elect two councillors, a city mayor, a regional mayor and a PCC on the same day here which is a lot. People in the US will have been voting on President all the way down to school supervisor and a bunch of propositions as well. They have fancy scanning machines to count em up but it still takes a while to tabulate and release

Oh and in Maine for example, they have ranked choice voting so that's a bunch more fun as well

This page is useful and seems fairly constantly updated>

Georgia looking very doable now
That's what I'm on mostly.
This page is good for zooming in and looking at counties: Presidential Election Results
So for Georgia you can look at which counties have most votes left to come in - and of course the 3% left in Fulton County (Atlanta) is gonna dwarf, say, 15% left in a county out in the sticks.

Anyway, Georgia Republicans busy filing law suits across the state to knock off votes here n there. Cos that's what happens

Is it possible that the President now regrets telling all his supporters to not use postal votes or is it pretty much going to plan for him with the discrediting of the mail in ballots as intended?

My bullish call this morning is Georgia is going to come through and make Arizona moot. Which, given the amount of voter suppression that was going on there (many voters in DeKalb county had their voting location switched with 24 hours to go) would be an absolute triumph for the local get the vote out organisers there.
Though it could end up in automatic recount territory as well!
Voter suppression in the South especially is muscle memory for the state now. Removing voters from the rolls is a good one - 200k wrongly removed in GA alone. Comes into its own when the results are this close

We still confident about NV though. Trump needs to win AZ, PA, GA and everything else left undeclared. Not impossible. But unlikely.

The problem with counting votes received which are postmarked on polling day is this, a postmark cannot be relied on.

One of the curses of philately is cancellation devices 'in the wild'.

Now it is even more simple, laser print the cancellation. Impossible to tell without subjecting it to high magnification inspection.

There are many ways to commit election fraud. This sounds like one of the harder ways to me. How would you do it? You would need to get hold of a list of people who didn't vote and get their votes in on their behalf. How likely is this to happen?
