Quite. They've seen what they can get away with now, and worse, what's actually popular with half the country. Cloak it in a respectable looking suit, rather than an insane clown, then its job done.

Surely a significant part of Trump's appeal is that he's not just another respectable looking suit though?

If anyone queries AZ, I'm treating it as still competitive btw. I know Fox have called it for Biden but there still seems a possibility that the remaining mail ballots could break the wrong way

I'm sure that's what the party hopes for, but having Trump lingering (with access to funding) in the body politic and threatening to run as Trump will be an on-going nightmare for he party. It could well have an impact on party discipline as well as pretenders to the 2024 nomination performatively display their divergence/convergence with Trumpism.

I think that's gone now, though, realistically. I can't see how Michigan doesn't go Biden, given where the remaining ballots are coming from. That rules out the draw, Trump legalistic shenanigans notwithstanding.
