US election 2020 thread

Wayne County has come through. Well done, Wayne. So Michigan and Wisconsin now in the bag for Biden?

pessimistic about PA. Still a long way back and running out of votes. So all on Nevada tomorrow?

Quite, which is one reason Bernie isn't necessarily the dead cert some seem to think he would have been - he might be able to sweep the rust belt, but could well be at the cost of other constituencies in other swing states.

(I would still have preferred him in the seat mind)
And obviously have the full backing of the dems...just like labour backed Corbyn.

Yes, and that's the only way one can organise a federal state system.
No, it's not the only way, but there are quite important reasons why it was organised that way, and why it remains that way today, just as there are reasons why the electoral college system is organised and operates the way it does.

Simply saying it shouldn't be the way it is because you (not just you, TBF) think it should be done differently is pretty pointless, though if you or anyone else want to continue in that vein, by my guest.

So what happens if the AP 'calls' a state and then the vote goes the other way? Why is it up to the AP anyway? Seems a ridiculous way of doing it especially as they have six weeks till the electoral college vote anyway.

There are historical reasons why all systems are as they are. Doesn't mean they're sensible, fit for purpose and particularly democratic today. The UK's wonky system is another case in point.

If Pakistan flew in a squadron of elite troops to the US to attack a compound, kills anyone there who stood in the way of their principal target and then fly out with the corpse of that principal target, pretty sure the US would class that an invasion...
Trump has done that as well though. And cruise missiled Syria

conversely, heavily democratic California passed Proposition 22, which strips Uber drivers etc. of their employment rights. Almost like people support parties like they would a football team rather than having any particular political values.
Yes, I noticed that

I wonder how many botched elections it's going to take before both parties acknowledge that a small group of wealthy slaveowners 225 years ago may not in fact have created the most perfect system of government ever devised.
