To pretend that the popular vote does not matter is absurd, of course it matters, politically it matters far more than the EC vote. It shows that the GOPs populist right turn is appealing to a (significant) minority of the country, and actually turning off many voters.Don't spoil my night with a discussion on popular vote pls .
I can't forgive Calamity1971's disturbing mental image she posted a while ago.Squeaky bum time.

Now politics is always more than voting but the popular vote is more political than the EC vote, to dismiss it is to fall into the trap of liberals everywhere of seeing the electoral as the political. To follow Toynbee's nonsense that a few thousand more votes would stop the BNP, as if by being denied seats suddenly makes all those BNP voters just vanish in a puff of smoke.
If it's turning voters off why does Trump already have more votes than Romney or McCain? It shows that the GOPs populist right turn is appealing to a (significant) minority of the country, and actually turning off many voters.
That's for the pollsters to answer if they can but have a hunch that they either got their composition of the electorate wrong ie higher turnout of Trumpier demographics than they bargained for or they just can't speak to enough Trumpettes - whether that's failing to contact by phone, online or whateverSo can we now say that 'shy Trumpers' are a real thing?
Is there a narrative we can look to - polls wrong, voter suppression, just really slow counting?
(Got up at 3am for a piss, looked at phone and thought it was a fucking shit show - I now think that Trump will win).
Grauniad map showing Texas for Trump
Because the size of the electorate has increased, Trump took a lower share of the vote than Romney and (unless my calculations are off) a lower share of the electorate than bothIf it's turning voters off why does Trump already have more votes than Romney or McCain?
A lot more votes to come in though. He'll have a higher proportion of the electorate by the final count. More total votes (as proportion of electorate) just suggests voters aren't 'turned off'.Because the size of the electorate has increased, Trump took a lower share of the vote than Romney and (unless my calculations are off) a lower share of the electorate than both
Biden 7.5 points up in NE-2 with 95% of the vote in
Can I blame fucking Facebook yet?Looks like Trump is up quite a bit with Latino voters in Florida, perhaps the ratfucking via WhatsApp did the job, just like in Brazil.
Seeing Farage up there campaigning at rallies made me realise it was the same bunch behind Trump as in 2016, Brexit etc, doubtless using data/social media to target voters very precisely and effectively, while the Democratic campaign was bigging up how much they’d spent on TV advertising in swing states. Doubtless we’ll find out more in the post-mortem.
It's on a knife edge so expect shooting and burning.Just woke up to see that Trump seems to be winning all the swing states. Is he actually on course to win this??
You saw how many Brits voted for the openly racist Johnson right?Whatever happens, even if biden does get to be president, the main thing i want to understand (because i so dont' get it) is that half of Americans have seen the same man as me for the last four years and chose that they want more of that.

I think there's a significant gap there, yes. Same in the UK. Very little coverage of this stuff that I could find, possibly because it's still so darkyou can blame the democratic campaign for not using the same techniques, or effectively countering them.
