US Democratic Party Primaries 2019

Chris Matthews a host on MSNBC attacks Bernie Sanders.

Basically Matthews is worries that a front runner that subscribes to far left socialism will be no match against Trump.

"The issue of that campaign — it is that word — socialism," Matthews, who has hosted "Hardball" since 1994, said. "Some people like it — younger people like it — those of us like me, who grew up in the cold war and saw some aspects of it after visiting places like Vietnam like I have and seeing countries like Cuba being there I've seen what socialism is like, I don't like it. OK — it's not only not free, it doesn't frickin' work

He also lost his hair over the spectre of public executions in central park with him in the queue being marshalled to the killing grounds by vengeful sanders supporters. The man's a fucking joke -he's either a credulous fool or he's losing his marbles.

If he's going after sanders he should at least base his attacks on some semblance of reality...

You went to the trouble of finding an 'apparently' pic of the author of that article, but have absolutely nothing to say about the article itself. Right.

No trouble whatsoever, if you read the article (as I did) you will see the authors mugshot along with his twitter handle at the bottom of the page.

He sounds almost as dumb as President Trump, who sometimes jumps straight from vowing to defend programs like Social Security and Medicare to vowing that socialism will never gain a foothold in the United States.

I still can't get over Bloomberg as a candidate. I might not think much of some of the other candidates but I can accept them as being there. With Bloomberg my brain just says "what? no fuck off lol".

Apparently Twitter is trending with #Bloombergisaracist over comments he has made in the past regarding sending police resources into high crime areas (minority areas to be precise) and also that whites were being disproportionately stopped by police.

The various clips appear to be doing the rounds but CNN (I think) are on the defensive claiming the original source of the Twitter trend is a Bernie Sanders supporter who sees Bloomberg as a threat to Bernie’s lead for the nomination.

My mistake. However it's strange that all you took away from reading the article is the demeanour of the author. Nothing to say regarding Limbaugh's predictable homophobia.

Lol, I’d say that is perfectly in keeping with the etiquette of this forum from what I’ve experienced so far.

As for Limbaugh - he’s a shock jock making, unsurprisingly shock jock comments that is likely to troll the left and get left wing activists masquerading as journalists some free publicity - seems to have worked. All this notion of Trump using Limbaugh as a ‘proxy’ is just tinfoil drivel.

Aside from that nobody really gives a fuck.

Oh, there's more than that - defending redlining for example - and I expect there will be more to come.

He was a rooter for the Iraq war like most in the US media but now denies it. I saw him do and interview in NYC awhile back. He clearly loves the fame and money. Terrified of them Stalinist Bernie people.

Maybe Vietnam and Cuba would be nicer places if the US hadn't bombed, embargoed and CIA'd the shit out of them

Some right rib-ticklers here.

The Portable Bloomberg: The Wit & Wisdom of Michael Bloomberg
This booklet was given to Mike Bloomberg on his 48th birthday in 1990. It was produced by Elisabeth DeMarse, Bloomberg L.P.’s former chief marketing officer. “Yes, these are all actual quotes,” DeMarse wrote in the introduction. “No, nothing has been embellished or exaggerated. And yes, some things were too outrageous to include.”

Bloomberg has given varying responses over the years when asked about some of the quotes in the booklet. His spokesman said in 2001 that “some of the things he might have said” and Bloomberg apologized to “anyone that was offended by” the comments. Bloomberg at one point referred to them as “a bunch of Borscht Belt jokes.”

After The Post informed the Bloomberg campaign that it planned to put online a copy of the full booklet, spokesman Stu Loeser said, “Mike simply did not say the things somebody wrote in this gag gift, which has been circulating for 30 years and has been quoted in every previous election Mike has been in.”

At the same time, Loeser added, “Mike openly admits that his words have not always aligned with his values and the way he has led his life and some of what he has said is disrespectful and wrong.” He did not provide specifics.

Note: The text in the booklet contains profanity.

Blimey!

I see Bloomberg is now considering Hilary Clinton as his VP.

i sincerely doubt that would happen.

Nevertheless he's currently polling in second place now after Saunders. Will be interesting to see him on the debate stage tomorrow.

Seen his 'There's a bully in the Whitehouse ' video? Cant stand the fella personally but the video is quite good.

he's made a few and all of them are good.
otoh, being a bully is what trumpers like, so i'm not sure how many i-love-a-rich-guy-who-is-from-outside-DC-and-will-fix-things minds he'll change with that line.

He couldn't give a shit about turning Trump supporters, this is about whipping the democrat "peasantry" into line. Him offering to back anyone who wins the nomination is a clear gambit to suppress dissent and scrutiny from the other candidates. His pockets are deep enough for him to not bother gracing any debate and just keep saturation-plugging his candidacy on traditional and social media. He doesn't need to build a 'base', he's banking on the support of 'blue no matter who' voters and fear of a second Trump term to get the vote out for him...

If he gets the nomination and then when he loses, it's a nailed-on cert that Sanders, his supporters and 'disaffected millennials' will get the blame. The progressive movement in the US will get put back in its box for another generation, the status quo will be preserved and Bloomberg and his assorted billionaire chums can carry on doing billionaire shit and the threat of them being made to pay their fair share magically goes away.

Anyone who backs Bloomberg for 2020 is a bigger mug than those from the 2016 Trump cohort.

(E2A: quotes around the word 'peasantry' for clarity)

you're just "telling the truth".
thanks for playing.
Next time I'll 'air quote' it for you... Just so you don't get the misapprehension that I actually beleive the democrat voters are a bunch of peasants...

So, that's your take-away huh?

That certainly seems to be what his campaign is about. I know a fair few Bernie supporters and "disaffected millennials." I'm not certain they're going to go back in the box. The Democrats have a small window to claim them. If they don't, they'll walk away from the Democratic Party and find more radical ways of changing the status quo. Its a large enough demographic that I'm uncertain if the Democrats can survive the loss of a large portion of their grassroots supporters.

Bernie certainly can pull the crowds in - his most recent rally had 17k crowd, but don’t know if they were all there for him as he did also have actor Tim Robbins and rock band Portugal there also.

Anyhow, Bernie laid into Bloomberg along the lines of they’re not going to let him buy the presidency then criticised Bloomberg for his racist stop and frisk policies when he was NY mayor.

Will Bloomberg get the nomination instead of Bernie like Hillary ‘stole’ it from him in 2016? Even Trump has commented that he thinks Bernie is being treated unfairly.

...yeah and from what I've seen of the way the DNC tends to behave, they will roundly blame the exodus on a Trump 2020-2024 term.

They blamed Sanders' supporters not getting out and voting for Hillary (despite them voting for her in larger numbers than her lot did for Obama) and Sanders not campaigning enough for her (despite him doing something like 40+ rallies for her vs Hillary's 8 for Obama) as the root cause of her loss to Trump as opposed to her evident flaws as a candidate.

Self reflection and awareness is definitely in short supply among the DNC high-ups...

Edit to add: This might be the the start of a period where the dems and repubs fracture as unified parties and the US system becomes a lot more multi-polar...?

Sanders has got the SA vote; Mijente is making its first-ever presidential endorsement .

Mijente, a grass-roots organization that mobilizes Latinx and Chicanx voters, decided to make its first-ever presidential endorsement in response to President Donald Trump’s rhetoric and policies targeting Latinos. The endorsement adds to the growing collection of progressive groups coalescing around the Vermont senator, after earlier expectations they would be divided between him and Elizabeth Warren.

I still can’t understand how anyone with a good conscience can back Bloomberg here. Even if he is sorry for his previous actions and statements, the man has already spent 350 million of his own dollars running ads on TV. He’s not even trying to hide the fact he’s trying to buy the election it’s so blatant.

Also if Bernie only has a plurality of delegates at the convention the DNC can still take the nomination off him. It sounds crazy but that actually might happen, the more I look into this the Democratic Party are just as bad as the Republicans.

I’m not worrying though Bernie won the popular vote in two of the whitest states in America. He is massively ahead in the Latino vote and even pulling ahead of Biden in the African-American vote. Barring a collapse or a major scandal I think he’ll have this wrapped up after Super Tuesday....I hope so anyway.
