US Democratic Party Primaries 2019

It seems the ‘official’ Iowa caucus results are riddled with errors. Stuff that’s being pointed out by normal people on Twitter. It seems the DNC have ‘pulled a Putin’ on this one. How brazen are these people?

Even the NYT are reporting it.

I still can't get over Bloomberg as a candidate. I might not think much of some of the other candidates but I can accept them as being there. With Bloomberg my brain just says "what? no fuck off lol".

For me its largely that I don't see any other candidate beating Trump right now. They all come over like media trained robots. There's a Gallup poll just out now which suggests as much with small business owners too.

people didn't all know who he was in nyc in 2001 either.
unbeholden to party apparatus, he's been the only one to get into trump's face. there's no angle that i can see from which trump can come back at him, unlike any of the other candidates, which is why i think he's rising in the polls. i have alot to dislike bloomberg about - opening the door to the ongoing wreckage of affordable housing in manhattan, manipulating himself into a third mayoral term - but he can run a bureaucracy and i can see him as president.

Biden has already abandoned New Hampshire and gone to South Carolina, looks like this will be a big night for Bernie Sanders.

Buttigieg etc. still going on about Sanders being 'unelectable' - apparently forgetting that people were saying the same thing about both Bernie Sanders and a certain demented failed businessman-turned-reality TV host four years ago.

The Democratic party was looking at numbers like this in early 2016 and concluding "we'd better stick with safe, electable Hillary Clinton, the fact that people don't like her probably won't be any kind of issue in the general election."

Biden’s supposed appeal among black voters is his link to Obama. I have to say I’m looking with interest to see how much truth there is to that for a number of reasons - not least the fact that the Obama presidency actually did very little for black America.

As for New Hampshire I don’t think anyone had a brilliant night. Sanders did okay but the in wasn’t as decisive as perhaps hoped. The centrist race seems to look like Buttigieg v Bloomberg who hasn’t entered the race yet. Biden and Warren both look to be in trouble. Is there anything else?

Third place counts as a big win for Amy Klobuchar, and it's going to work out well for Sanders if her and Buttigieg split the centrist vote after Biden's collapse.

US media is calling Biden's win "underwhelming" since he didn't win by as big a margin as he did in 2016, when he was facing one Democratic rival instead of 8 or 9.

He's a short arse.

Sounds incredibly shallow but that shit matters to both Trump and to a significant chunk of voters. I can see the Presidential debate now with Trump deliberately standing behind Bloomberg as the latter speaks.,

he's started already - "mini mike". but i'll trust bloomie with being able to swat it aside.
actual exchange, saw the video but can't find it now:
reporter: "do you think it would be healthy to have two billionaires running?"
bloomberg: "who's the other one?"

A good line but Steyer's a billionaire as well, though.

I see no reason he wouldn't be able to use the same "out of touch liberal elite" stuff that worked the last time and has been used the past few decades, and surely nobody thinks the hypocrisy matters any more this time? The fact that many Dems wouldn't vote for Bloomberg (I wouldn't) doesn't help.

Bloomberg won't get the candidacy anyway I would say. It's more of an illustrative spectacle.

I'd rather see Bloomberg nominated for the guillotine than the Democratic nomination and I hope he suffers a humiliating defeat on Super Tuesday - but he's got a sane position on climate change, which makes him vastly preferable to Trump. Has he said anything about who he'd consider for vice-president? Seems like Kamala Harris might be a good fit.

His policies on most things seem to hit the right note, for me anyway. Climate change, gun control, health, education....

He gets a lot of flack for stop and frisk in NY - and rightly he has apologised. What doesn't get so much press is the good things he did for people of colour while NY mayor, such as the Young Men's Initiative - which Obama eventually rolled out nationwide as My Brother's Keeper.

you knew this was going to happen, trump letting his proxies do it
