Urban75 Album of the Year - best Live album Ever

I'll try and think of some more spherical themed bands 🤔

That's a great album, but only about half of it is actually live.

There are loads of Miles Davis live albums, but one of my favourites is Dark Magus, recorded in 1974 and originally released in 1977 in Japan only.

you are quite right that live evil will not be allowed.

for best miles live tho, it has to be Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965, genuinely mindblowing. All seven sets from two nights at the club at the end of a long and hard tour.

To quote Herbie Hancock - "everybody did things according to certain kinds of expectations. I knew if I did this, Ron would do that, or Tony knew that if he did this, I would do that. It became so easy to do that it was almost boring." On the flight to Chicago, Tony Williams came up with a solution, proposing that the group make "anti-music": "whatever someone expects you to play, that's the last thing you play..." After some discussion, the musicians agreed, but decided not to tell Davis.

I think set four is my favourite

The who at Live at Leeds.
Sam Cooke at the harlem Square club
Johnny cash at St quinten

All capture artists at their peak and are far far more than greatest hits with some cheering.
The bit where Cash sings the lines "St Quinten - I hope you rot in hell!" to the inmates and their reaction is absolutely spinetingling.

Yeah, Live at the Plugged Nickel is great too, and there are too many other great Live Miles albums for me to really pick out one single favourite.

I can't think of any live albums I particularly rate. I always think most stuff sounds better on record.

Live mixes however, especially if you chuck in an MC or two...

I loved the Stush Carnival Special 97 tape pack from Chelsea Football Suite.

Couldn't even think of ten!
I can't believe made in Japan has not been added yet. This is certainly a top five.

Yes, that's a good one! They were not my era but I had an older brother whose mates had older brothers and cousins, so that was how I got into rock/metal. :) It started with the compilation 24 Carat Purple. Fireball on MIJ sounds way better than the studio version, easily.

Fucking hell, I forgot I said last week was the deadline not this on!

Ohh well, better make it this weekend so you can still get your votes in and I can pretend it hasn't taken me so bloody long!

Fishmans - 98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare

This recording of the Japanese legends' final show is rated at #18 on rateyourmusic.com - that's 18th best album ever, not 18th best live album. That's clearly ridiculous, but it is quite good.

I think we can safely say, this one did not work. Far too few votes for me to even try to fix it.

Where are we up to? Seventies or eighties?
