Turning Point UK / TPUK WTAF?

Turning point UK, active/started in the US too...part of the right wing/Trump-happy/church crew have launched a 'Education Watch' campaign this week asking students to report incidents/Universities and lecturers for 'overtly left wing' perspectives...

I have had this lot on my radar for a while, constantly using BAME students/member to front their vids etc. There was a decent podcast of a USA meet recently too which i'll have to look for. CULT-fear gripped me.

We have received many reports of political bias in our education system. We will publish the examples we receive here.

It’s time to end the politicisation of our young people by people who should know better! If you have any evidence of this, then please submit it to us using this form. You can include some contact details in your message if you would like us to get in touch, or you can report it anonymously.

The fight-back begins now!

Must be loads to add regarding economics classes...
There was that interesting story at Manchester uni the economics students post 2008 asked for their syllabus to be updated as it was clearly all lies. At the time the university refused to change a thing.

They ended up amongst other things writing a book about the experience and the aftermath of it, which has led to a new economics movement of sorts

I can't vouch for what they're thinking is like on economics now, but economics is probably the single most ideologically driven and uncritical subject taught at universities.

A self perpetuating doctrine with it's sacred texts and priests.

The "Free Speech" warriors wankers at Spiked-Online are very unimpressed with Education Watch.

The mini McCarthyites of Turning Point UK (archived version)

Does this mean we may never see another election leaflet with both Claire Fox and a TPointUK 'influencer' (Joel Chilaka) on it?

Chilaka doesn't currently seem to have the same internet presence as a year ago. Perhaps it's finals year.

Just watched that video - what’s the problem, they are advocating for educators to be politically neutral?

I dare say you’d be supporting them if this was a left wing organisation advocating for the same.

Wow. The first reported message from their website is a teacher advocating voting ! Obviously the thin end of a some globalist commie conspiracy, probably run by Jews I should imagine :/

Here is one of TPointUK's British founders and backers, QANON believing scientologist John Mappin, a man who stretches the concept of 'eccentricity' to breaking point, illustrating what attracts ambitious right leaning students to the group

No, not his admittedly awesome rapping skills, but the fact that there is an open conduit to significant amounts of money and the possibility of being able to network with rather better placed members of the establishment. Fronted by a not very scary looking clown. What could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, an anti censorship campaign that's actively trying to censor university lecturers. Sounds perfectly legit and nothing to worry about.

I'm not campaigning against censorship of you though.

Can we finally bin off this clown? Hes too stupid to provide any insight or even entertainment, he's just really fucking irritating (and not in a clever getting under your skin way, more like a dog that wont stop licking it's own balls at inappropriate moments)

Perhaps I've missed them, but I don't recall seeing Marty1 make personal attacks on any posters here. Can't you either ignore him or just address his opinions? Personal insults to someone who isn't giving it back is not a good look.

Actually, when I first joined these forums he accused me of being an overseas troll, which I would say is a personal attack, he's just savvy enough not to flame that's all..

My experience of uni campuses is that they are over-run with centrist lecturers dedicated to preserving the status quo, and I'm not the only one whose been to uni and experienced that. The idea that Turning Point are just advocating neutrality is disingenuous bullshit, they target left-wing lecturers only, when infact a US study (the Free Speech Project, Georgetown University*) showed that censorship at US college campuses overwhelmingly silenced people on the left, mainly pro-palestinian rights people.

What Turning Point are doing in the US and the UK is heavily politically biased.

*Data shows a surprising campus free speech problem: left-wingers being fired for their opinions

I've reported posts 19 and 22, just to draw mods' attention to whether it's ok to make personal attacks.

Sorry to derail your thread, Rutita1

I think I'll carry on as I have been thanks. Hes a far right troll who thinks hes going under the radar. Maybe he fools you but I'm having none of it.
