Tottenham Hotspur 2020-21

Weak appointment. 137th choice, though Levy will dress it all up as if Nuno was #1 all along.

To say the reaction from supporters has been underwhelming is putting it very mildly. There’s real unrest and anger - highest ticket prices in the world, ESL, sacking a manager we didn’t want in the first place just before a Cup Final. The new manager is blameless but all the ire is directed at Levy. Huge amount of ST’s not renewed. Not mine. After some soul searching I renewed (against my better judgement).

The parasite Mendes will be all over us with two Bob signings. Nuno gone in a year. Joke club

is there an appointment that wouldve made you happy?

Point taken...

The nostalgic in me yearned for Poch. Conte and Ten Haag would’ve shown some ambition. I probably would’ve preferred Potter when it came down to it.

However, he is here now, so let’s hope for the best.

probably time for a new season thread...

Decent but uninspiring managerial appointment. I think we'd all have been a lot happier if he'd been appointed 6 weeks ago, before any of the Poch / Conte etc talk.

Everton and Arsenal trying to sign Ben White from Brighton. Why aren't we in for him? Inevitable talk for Coady instead, fine player and cheaper but 5 years older.

Cos you spent all your money on that cheese room.

Half expected this to finish with him holding up a zones 1-6 travelcard

(I don't mind the appointment tbh, doesn't sound/act like a prick, and I'll take that)

Re Kane going on strike: I don't have my normal trade unionist take on these situations as manoeuvres between elite footballers and millionaire owners have little to do with the normal workplace. Same time, it's massively disrespectful to the Spurs fans and other players, many of whom would have been personal friends of his. Also, I'd have a bit more sympathy with a player trying to force a move if there's been bad blood between him and the club - which isn't the case here AFAIK (as a non-Spurs fan).

Clubs holding a player's registration and being able to keep them at the club for a number of years is weird and part of the bizarre world of football finances. I wouldn't defend that. But there is supposed to be a bond between players and fans and this kind of behaviour is a real breach of that.

He's something else

I was going to say he doesn't score many but they did show a couple. You'd think it would make Kane have second thoughts about leaving if he's going to get passes like those.

Eta yes I'm wondering whether his England appearances have gone to his head.

If they can overcome Larne in the Third Qualifying Round, Portuguese club Paços de Ferreira will face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa Conference League Playoff Round.

agree: i dont think Gil can score, more importantly can he even cross properly? - agree, would be deadly with Kane in providing in the box assists.

innit
dont sign a contract for 5 years if you dont intend to fulfil it, and moan when you realise you;re stuck at spurs

anyway im happy for him to be gone and replaced with another expensive striker

Won't the fans' general hate of Levy and adoration of Kane mean they'll suspect Levy did agree and is going back on his word?

Maybe, I don't know much about how solid the 'gentleman's agreement' was. It's just generally the not turning up for training tactic seems like a fuck you to fans who want someone to stay.

I'd guess he expects Levy to play hardball, so he's doing the same.

(As a Gooner, I'd like there be some protracted turmoil, but Kane has always struck as not as much of a prick as star footballers can be so I find myself on his side)

In these situations I always think the 'one more year' deal Ferguson did with Ronaldo before he left for Madrid is the best type of outcome. It's public, so avoids any kind of ambiguity, but also means the player leaves on good terms. Suppose Kane will be thinking he might miss the boat if he turns 29 before heading off for the Sheikdom.

Can see him having to stay tbh.
I presume if they keep him beyond this transfer window he becomes less valuable to city as he'd then be ineligible for the Champs League for this year? Given his age they'll have to really load up the wheelbarrows of cash to get their man.
