And I'd quite agree if it ends up being used for people from parts foreign heading to the UK but wholly disagree should it be employed to speed former people on their way to their final destination

There's maybe a couple hundred of thousand fp to pass through ascension island on the way to drain Falkland sound and save the penguins. They will leave nothing on ai bar a new pontins-style resort.
Is Wideawake airfield still operational on Ascension? All I ever heard about it was personnel tents being invaded by giant land crabs.

Kind of. The runway is temporarily downgraded and sections of it need rebuilding - flights can land and take off on the reduced runway, but it's more dodgy for aircraft at maximum take off weight, so the airbridge to the Falklands goes via Africa instead.
The contract has been done, I think it's due to be completed in about 18 months.
(The fishing at AI is excellent. Nice place to spend a few days....)

Government of the talents mate. Yes, she actually is that thick.
She's trying to mimic the Australian policy of putting migrants put on the arse end of nowhere to reduce the 'pull' factors, but she's not bright enough to spend 30 seconds on wiki and Google earth and decide that AI isn't a runner - not least because the US (prompted by the MOD) will go spare - she just comes comes out with idiot ideas and gets her team to work out how viable they are. So this stuff leaks and makes her look even more like an idiot.

Also not an insignificant factor, AI has no airport capable of taking flights from the UK right now, she also looked at St Helena, which also has no airport capable of taking a flight from the UK. Not sure South Africa or Namibia would wish to be involved in Patel's imperialistic racist plans, tbf.

They could fly them down there 'Rendition Class' in a C-17 from BZZ. It would be wildly expensive but when has that ever stopped the MoD?
I heard Branson has offered the government a contract on this for £1bn per flight and they are keen to go ahead.
