The reign of Alexander Boris De Pfeffel Johnson - Predictions?

As the voting public have turned out to be turkeys i predict Singapore on the Thames in ten years (because he’ll be re-elected). Broadly we’ve taken the fork in the path towards the US model and away from Europe.

The European model is hyper aggressive neo-liberalism. What's the US one?

Do you think five unhappy years of negotiating trade deals will see the tories maintain their electoral attraction?

@ OP

Law and order, sell stuff off, punish students, make LOADS of money for the ruling class whilst smiling for the camera and posing. That's all he has got, he doesn't need a fridge to hide in then.

I think it's obvious that the Tories will fuck things up. Things tend to go from bad to worse under them, under him it is certain.

Given Johnson's track record, we can be confident that he will be lazy and incompetent. He'll lurch from one crisis to the next. He'll probably end up 'delivering' some kind of brexit soft enough to wipe your arse with. And all this crap will need scapegoats. It will be messy and ugly, and people will die needlessly, as they already are.

Well we’ve had Brexit, 10 years of austerity, fucking food banks, the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (involving flat out lying about ‘no top down reorganization of the NHS on my watch’ (‘Call me Dave, Get rid of the green crap, hug a husky’ Cameron’), an openly fascist bigoted liar as a PM,etc. And they got re-elected with a landslide. So yeah.

'One Nation' corporatism with added nationalism. Scapegoating of immigrants for social ills, and vilification of those immigrants for their culture and race. 'Othering' of Muslims and other minorities. Systematic lying and manipulation of the media, constant smearing of opponents, often accusing them of the very things you yourself are guilty of. Suppression of groups and organisations that oppose you, and ridicule and persecution of those who criticise (you think the BBC is supine now? Just wait). Crushing of union power. Subversion of constitutional limits on power, with moves to change those limits to give you more power. Done in the name of opposing a mythical 'metropolitan liberal elite', which despises working people and seeks to frustrate their will, and to which all your opponents belong. The lining of the pockets of the rich and firesale of what remains of the commons. Systematic rewards for those who back your programme. And blaming everybody else when everything goes tits up.

Fascism? There is a certain family resemblance. We join the swelling ranks of countries with regimes with, shall we say to be polite, fascist tendencies.

The point you're missing is we haven't had brexit, just the prelude to departure from the eu and consequent reordering of our trade relations with the rest of the world. Let's see how Johnson and his party fare

Jesus.

All of it. It's pathetic. Work backwards from it's Fascism, well i couldn't say nonsense.

You have no business employing that word if this is how you use it. This is just rhetorical political crap. Blimey i am angry.. What don't i like? Fascism, this then is the next strep to fascism.

Just to remind you again, as you seem to have forgotten, this was Johnson four days ago, about EU immigrants

Treating the UK like it's their own country for too long

This isn't dogwhistle racism. It's just racism. And the strategy has clearly worked.

It’s not what’s happening though. It’s how it’s perceived. Optics. And Murdoch and his minions will take care of that. Sorry dude. Feeling pretty negative at the moment. I’m sure I’ll get more optimistic with a bit of distance. It’s an endurance sport this politics thing.

Talk of optics has no place out of pubs

How do you think five or ten years or more of Brexit will be perceived, when people are riled by the damn thing taking so long already?

I don't expect you'll ever be optimistic again given what the next few years will bring

Did they end up scrapping those water cannons or are they still sat in a breaker’s yard somewhere? That for starters anyway, maybe use them on striking doctors.

"Liked" because I do not like. You know what I mean. :)

Again, if you don't know the difference between racism and white nationalism then stop. (Cue, but it feels like..)

Towards the US model and away from Europe

There won't be as much public provision of services in the UK compared to the US e.g. in the US 80% of people get water from public utilities, but in the UK it's only about 10%. Similarly with power as much power is delivered by regional public utilities.

Sorry are you just giving me facts about the current situation, if so, why?
