I think we've all learned how to Zoom our loved ones. Yes, it's a long tour, but also yes, they're paid a fuckload of money. It's pretty weird. We don't know the facts yet, but the bubble must have been broken - in the state with the tightest possible restrictions in Oz.

I often wonder how it must feel to support a successful team. The closest I can do is British Track Cycling (fairly niche or uncompetitive in sport popularity tho it is).
Mad to think people like Chelsea supporters exists and are amongst us (twats they may be, of course) but have that expectation and experience of success and genuine scarcity of embarrassing fails or chokes. A fundamental different way of life, despite being ostensibly the same cultural and social background.
Anyway I digress. Wood to inspire a couple if mini collapses today...

Did anyone see root just after the toss when he spoke to the telly? I thought he "looked" shot in the head. Obviously I can't define what that is or where it comes from but in my head I saw a man who has gone past the time he knows he is right for the captain job, or that it's the end of the process... line,... however you want to put it. Speculation I know but I guess it's hard not to Think of stuff like that! Jeez, that's pretty much how gower does his commentary... Just waffling on about whatever comes into his head!

Who else is there though? I can't think of anyone. And to be fair to Root he's still holding his end up with the bat.
I suspect there may be a part of him that is pissed off the rest of his team are just nowhere near as good as he is. That's not his fault.

There is nobody else. He's world class. Nobody except Stokes is and even he is struggling. Burns captains his county but can't play at this level so it's a nightmare for the selectors. This is a terrible period.

We just don't have batsmen that know how to bat there. Even root finds it hard, because it is. But there isn't anyone else that can score big there either and it takes 3-4 players each ashes tour that get big runs

Rubbish. Root is not the best person for the job. He has trashed the greatest potential in Jofra Archer, he’s consistently made poor decisions, quite possibly the worst captain I can remember. Fuck him.
