The Ashes 2021/22

Malan bit lucky, but so was Warner. Root sublime. Got to hope they both get back in tomorrow.

Hameed looking good before getting out for 20-odd again, which is a bit frustrating. But is still a whole lot better than Burns. Dunno what to say about Burns really. All those moving parts. Of course, being weird works for Smith. For Burns, it seems to have gone all wrong.

Burns' movements really irritate me for some reason. They look a bit pretentious whereas Smith's seem natural. I remember him smashing Broad for some outrageous boundary after weaving about the crease at Lord's and he just kind of shrugged, like 'I don't know either'

Only one good session away from being back in it.

Or one bad session away from losing...

It's the hope that kills ya. But let's face it, it is still short odds on an Aus victory.

Where has all this alleged weather gone? Set fair for the next two days. With the extra half hours, we'll have barely lost any time at all.

Aus are shit at bad weather.

There's been massive thunderstorms every night apparently which clear up by the start of play

It's easy to point the finger at burns though, he has had a terrible couple of days, but other than the 3 quick so have the rest of England until root and malan today. Burns has just been head and shoulders at the top of the crap pile though!

Guardian now doesn't let you read the cricket articles either without registering, I may have to finally register

I'll likely get a string of messages telling me I've read 1247 articles over the last year and would I like to send them some money.

I can still read articles without registering.

Even with Root and Malan playing beautifully and chipping away at that huge first innings lead, this match is gone - probably about 95%-5% in Australia's favour.

What this does do though is slightly tip the mental battle ahead of the next 4. A bit like Gareth Bale scoring a hattrick at 4-0 down in the San Siro defeat to Inter Milan, without that there's no way Spurs would have won the White Hart Lane re-match a few weeks later.

That especially applies if Stokes and Buttler can pile on a few runs in this innings, make Australia at least work for the win. An innings capitulation, no batters posting even half decent scores would have made it difficult to see how England could even compete in the next test. Well played Root and Malan.

And both these things could happen, in that order.

Shaky starts seem a thing with Malan. But he can play. Once his brain or whatever kicks in, he's fluid. (Burns is never fluid and is getting found out after having a lot of luck in his early career).

Burns looks like an NPC from a PS2 game, cannot understand that positioning and movement.

I'm hoping to clear the mornings garden work so I can spend the arvo lying on the couch being riven with anxiety and false hope.
