The Ashes 2021/22

Just seen Aggers on the news saying the boys havent played cricket since September. That's simply not true - they've been playing practice games against each other for months while in lockdown. I guess the opposition wasn't good enough. He's also said England are seeing his as a practice match for Adelaide... lol. That's the spirit.

Well he could hardly say Root and Silverwood are dipshits.

Saw the extended BT highlights and wished I hadn't really. Highlight was probably Robinson's temperament in not killing Burns when he dropped Warner. Though I wouldn't have minded if he had. Just read a ridiculous stat. In the last two years England slip fielders have dropped one in four of every chance.

The no ball farce wasn't good. Not because the machine broke down on the flight in but because it showed Stokes bowled 14 no balls (13 of them undetected) in 30 balls. That's not a bowler with his rhythm (or run up) right. And he looked dead most of the time. Bit disconcerting.

Well it's not. Because we're going to get thrashed regardless.

Bit fed up with the excuses tbh.

I watched most of the first session last night and England bowled well without much luck. But taking wickets off no balls isn't bad luck and dropping catches isn't bad luck.

Delaying going around the wicket to Warner isn't bad luck. As soon as Wood did it, he looked unsure of himself. That was just baffling tactics. So Warner rode his luck, but he was given the chance to by poor England thinking and poor England execution.

Lack of practice matches is a problem, not helped by the weather, but plenty of teams jet in and out for test series nowadays with fuck all practice time and do ok with it.

I turned off just before the onslaught against Leach. In his defence, he's not the first opposition spinner to be taken to the cleaners by Aus. They did it to Swann when he was last there. They did it to Moeen. Ashwin's never done anything much in Aus. But it's worrying that this isn't the first time an opposition has successfully targeted him.

Most of all, it's horrible when you already know the result by the end of the second day.

I’ve been night watchman the last 2 days but I’m tactically going to sleep tonight to ensure a change in fortunes.

Predictions:
-Leach will wrap up the tail using Malinga’s action, pace and an inappropriate wig.

-Burns to score a fluid ton in an opening partnership that negates the deficit.

-Root is implicated, mid innings, in a match fixing scandal.

Only joking, burns will be out for a duck.

Currently working nights in an empty office (security), was looking forward to being able to watch this series ball by ball.

Careful what you wish for...

Rory Burns. Discuss.

Can't bat. Can't catch. I'd be interested to know his dropped catch percentage and how many runs that has cost the sides he's played in. If he was averaging 50 with the bat then sure. But he's not.

Oh so we're opening up with the nicest man in world cricket (other than Williamson). This should strike fear into the Aussie heart. We have the fastest bowler in the world ffs.

I think we're being a bit harsh on Burns. It's not really his fault that he's crap :( that's down to the selectors surely for picking him. I mean I'd be a crap opener for England but that's hardly my fault either because I'm not very good at cricket.

He's the captain of Surrey as well. So there must be something there. I guess it shows the jump between county cricket and test cricket.

Oh, he's just held on to one!

Harmison's saying the reason they're so shit today is because they're so tired. They've been playing just over an hour.

I keep thinking he sounds like Ross Noble!

Shit, just been happily listening to tms as the match steams along. Forgetting that it's a steam roller and it's going to mean that quite soon we'll be having to listen to our batting been knocked over again

lmao at the tv reporter being "Jimmy Anderson looking great in the nets today ahead of Adelaide"

Yeah imagine having a world class bowler but leaving him out

Ok, so if we can keep going through the evening session without losing any more wickets maybe we can make this go to Day 5? Maybe?!?

Waking up (went to bed at the between innings*) to this is bloody awesome Ashes morning.

Huge for the mentality to show this bowling attack is very vincible.

*No, me watching us play is NOT a jinx thankyouverymuch :hmm:

Only one good session away from being back in it.

Or one bad session away from losing...

It's the hope that kills ya. But let's face it, it is still short odds on an Aus victory.

Where has all this alleged weather gone? Set fair for the next two days. With the extra half hours, we'll have barely lost any time at all.

Aus are shit at bad weather.

Malan bit lucky, but so was Warner. Root sublime. Got to hope they both get back in tomorrow.

Hameed looking good before getting out for 20-odd again, which is a bit frustrating. But is still a whole lot better than Burns. Dunno what to say about Burns really. All those moving parts. Of course, being weird works for Smith. For Burns, it seems to have gone all wrong.
