The Ashes 2015

I don't think there's a law requiring Tea to be delayed if a result is imminent. I wonder if common sense will prevail.
Personally I'd delay it so I could get down tea and scones with lashings of jam without fear of the afternoon post sugar slump while on the field.

Looking pretty comfortable in the end. These two look to have played pretty sensibly (compared to the rest of the match). See off Johnson and score steadily but not recklessly against the rest. Sorted.

2-1. No one saw this coming after Lords. Incredible bowling performances from Finn and Jimmeh

Gonna miss Anderson in the next match (in his fortress) & some of the batting remains a concern. Will enjoy this result first though before worrying about Trent Bridge....

Pleased for Bell. He got lucky but made the most of it. I was all for dropping him after the last match.

Test cricket is unrecognisable these days. Usually in a 5 match series in England you'd bank on there being at least one draw due to weather, but the speed the game is played at now means you could lose entire days and still get a result. I think the only thing that seems certain is the series won't be drawn.

Like I said yesterday, we can't drop one of our only three batsman who actually know how to bat. We don't have that luxury.

Bit of luck but bell played properly today. Positive is good but this is test cricket. Lara always said you give the first hour to the bowler. He was as positive as they come but he also wanted to bat all day.

I expect lyth will stay in. For lack of alternatives really. Plus he's lucky England won. Wood for Anderson only change.

Aus may lose one more from dad's army.;)

Stats moment here. Was there a higher than average fours in this second innings? Bell and Root weren't shy about slogging it. Channel 5 highlights obviously show 4s, 6s, near misses and wickets but there does seem to be a lot. I'm not really on form stats-wise.

Yep. I think it's pretty likely they'll stop with him, but he is a concern. Personally I've still a soft spot for Compton but he still seems to be persona non grata.

I think there's a good chance that Aus will drop Voges for Shaun Marsh. Siddle must also be in contention for a game.

Asked about his side’s inconsistency in results – they have now become the first team to have a sequence of WLWLWLW in seven Tests – Cook replied: “I don’t mind if it goes on for nine matches, because it means we regain the Ashes.

I was thinking about the pitch. The match lasted less than 3 days so that's a big loss of gate receipts, especially as it was the weekend that went missing. Sky won't be happy either. OK, it was an exciting game but pitches are supposed to be prepared for 5 days.

As BA said the reason for this game finishing early has more to do with the inability of the batsmen to cope with some movement than the pitch having demons in it.

You see it quite a lot these days, batting collapses on wickets that while having something in them for the bowlers are by no means unplayable. The simple fact is that not enough modern days players are willing to, or maybe can, play like Nevill did in the 2nd innings, defend your wicket, play for time and maybe score a couple an over, in order to post what should be a par score.

Exactly. Bugger all wrong with a pitch that isn't a road. Get on with it and bat properly

None of that addresses what I said. The match lasted less than 3 days and cost a lot of revenue. If the batting has changed then the pitch should be prepared accordingly.

Yeah it definitely failed in its main purpose of providing the ECB and Sky with a load of money
