Good article here from a principled Socialist magazine. I don't agree with with all the points, and it doesn't go far enough IMO but it's well argued with some good, considered proposals at the end. A hundred times better than the "Revolutionary" LARP'ers on here :

I'm indifferent to the lawsuits. I don't think they'll achieve much other than fattening up a bunch of lawyers, but if the people concerned can afford to waste their money that's none of my business.
You didn't mention a thing about reducing the power of the police in your preferred solution. In fact, your preferred solution would only increase their power. You want the fucking cops to be the only ones with weapons! The same cops that murder people and sprinkle crack on them to excuse it. The same cops that regularly brutalise peaceful protestors. The same cops that will close ranks and lie to protect their own from feeling justice. Fuck. That.
Your proposals are based on a fundamental mistrust of ordinary people, and the valorisation of the bourgeois state as some kind of neutral arbiter, when it is in fact the instrument of oppressive class rule.

Where did I say I wanted cops to be armed? I fully support the defund the police movement in my home city and marched with my family members and neighbors for it last year. I want a full disarming of American society (excepting the Military who are a necessity evil) although I concede armed Federal and State intervention will be necessary to disarm the Qanon/NRA types who insist on illegally retaining their firearms post assault weapons ban.
I want to see a gun culture much like the UK where people seem to have a sensible attitude to gun ownership and the Police are largely unarmed. I see the UK as America's model in many ways including single payer healthcare and an increased role of Federal Government (power needs to be taken away from States). I am very much on the Left of the Democratic Party although I don't have much time for the Ultra Left (who on issues like Gun Control align themselves with the White Supremacist Right). Guns have been used in America to uphold White Supremacy and oppress POC. That's why the NRA are so rapid in opposing gun control.
Don't project political positions onto me that I do not hold, regarding the Police in this instance although I do mistrust "ordinary" people's ability to responsibly own deadly firearms. Just look at the horrific gun death statistics.

The UK isn't Federal really. Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Duchy of Cornwall & the Hebrides don't have the same rights as American states. England (London) controls pretty much everything.
Austria is the only other european country that is so centralised.

I don't doubt that for a minute. There will be some "warm work" needed but a society where White Supremacy is neutered and its political representatives emasculated is one well worth fighting for. Contain them in the fly over States. All the major population centers will be liberal Left. I dream of a two Party system where the parties are the Democrats and something akin to the DSA. That is achievable within our lifetime. We have made fantastic advances in the last two years. Covid is a human tragedy but it was a gift politically.

I stated that I didn't agree with all the points but the demands and "what we should push for" parts of the article and excellent and very much in line with what the mass of the Left are working for. The ultra Left NRA type stuff is very minority.
