The American mass shooting thread

boulder had just had a citywide ban on AR15 rifles and high-capacity mags overthrown.
not that the type of firearm really makes that much difference with less powerful or lower capacity weapons just need to aim a bit better.

The thing is the US has strict gun laws in place. Legally owned machine guns cut down rifles and shotguns grenade and rocket launchers! etc are all held under the NFA similar to UK firearms laws and are not used in murders. Even gun nuts recognize this and keep very very quiet about it.

Dreadful, ten dead and the reporting seems that if a cop wasn’t among the dead this event would be little more than a byline. What a state the US is in with this crap.

I think it would still be a headline. Its just that the cop with seven children is a better emotional hook to get more clicks. If it wasn't the cop, they'd pick someone else out who left behind small children or had a tragic past. Its all about the money.

Fair enough, I just see from a UK perspective, front page of BBC News site today:

back to thread tho' - the USA does seem to lead the world in the commodification of particularly asian women as sex objects iykwim. kinda adds a slightly more uneasy feel to the event
There's certainly a few Americans here who see Japanese women as docile/subservient and all the other horrible stereotypes.
The occupation of Japan, the Korean and Vietnamese wars saw millions of conscripts stationed in Asia. The USAF actively encouraged the establishment and use of brothels. I can't find it now, but I remember reading a piece from Stars & Stripes extolling the virtues of the asian women available in local brothels, but there is this from Wikipedia:

During the 1960s, camp town prostitution and related businesses generated nearly 25% of the South Korean economy

Park, Soo-mee (2008-10-30). "Former sex workers in fight for compensation"

So for whole generations of american men their first sexual experiences would have been of paying asian women.

It's hardly surprising they then sought to satisfy the tastes acquired when they got home.

Apprantly the solution to armed nutters.
Is learning how to defend yourself and practicing situational awareness 🙄.

Rather than not letting violent nutters have weapons unless they join the parachute regiment and can be corralled in Colchester where nobody would notice 😈😂

The Democrats are doing some excellent work on this by proposing enhanced background checks and a ban on assault weapons. Sadly the Republicans and their White supremacist supporters will put a block on it. This is why it is so important for the Democrats to win big in 2022 so we can overturn the filibuster and make passing Progressive legislation all the easier. The excellent Kamala Harris has hinted that she is open to abolishing the disgusting 2nd Amendment. This is a major reason why I am so supportive of her. Turning America into a gun free society will be a decades long project but with the election of Joe Biden we can start down that road.

From what I've seen, Boulder, Colorado passed an assault weapons ban in 2018.

The NRA then sued the city and a judge struck down the ban 10 days ago.

The Boulder shooter bought the gun 6 days before the shooting.

Fuck don't; the gunwankers will be back again for a few pages, dribbling on about their weapons.
No civilian has any reason to own a firearm. They are just too unsafe for the populace to be trusted with. Only exceptions should be small bore maximum two shot shotguns used by farmers and exterminators for vermin control. Even those should be heavily licensed and controlled. Maybe they shouldn't even be in private hands at all and should be rented from government bodies.

Ax^, I don't think there are any gun nuts. Some boys on urban do love to talk firearms though. The last couple of pages are a pretty good example.

ah don't want to be mean if some into airsoft or airguns has mumbled on about guns that hard

just don't think any 2nd amendment supporter has last long on the thread

:)

Last time I looked the second amendment talked about oppressive government and there wasn't a mention of hunting. Agree you shouldn't hunt with assault rifles, mind
I don’t see any reason why assault rifles couldn’t be used to hunt deer or bears. They’d probably be pretty good for it. Quail less so but it would be fun to watch.
