The American mass shooting thread

I worked for an Atlanta based firm in the 90s and went out there a few times. They had open carry there and loads of people had handguns on their belts. It felt very strange. I once queued behind a bloke in a supermarket who not only had an automatic in a holster but also 4 spare magazines clipped onto it. Totally fucked up place.
And that's why gun control of any sort is highly unlikely at this point - the stable door's wide open and the horse has well and truly bolted!

If you feel like regular Texas gun laws are too restrictive, you can always set up your own private security company to access the good stuff: Capitol rioter boasted he could access powerful weapons to 'take back' country, prosecutors say
A Texas man who joined a mob at the Capitol on Jan. 6 told two rioters he had set up a security company as a front to access law enforcement-grade weaponry that could be used to "take back our country," according to private, encrypted messages revealed Saturday by prosecutors.

Guy Reffitt, who drove from Texas to Washington, D.C., also said in recorded conversations that he and others were carrying firearms during the siege of the Capitol. He also encouraged his two associates to join the "Texas Three Percenters" militia, according to the messages posted to Telegram.

"I have a new security business to circumvent the 2nd Amendment issue," Reffitt told the pair. "Website is under construction but business is licensed with Secretary of State, Texas DPS, and Texas Board of Private Security. We can get ammo and weapons available to law enforcement. We have an interior certified training officer. Join us and lets take back our country. The fight has only just begun."

Was that the plastic one? Perhaps the one my mate raved about in our early teens til he joined the Army and kept breaking them (something something brittle plastic shit if I recall correctly).
Thatcher sold off royal ordinance and told the workers making the new rifle they were on the dole when the contract was finished strangely they weren't terribly motivated.. The Sa80 was a poor quality rip off of the AR18 itself designed as a cheaper version of the m16 sterling arms owned the license and even pointed out where they fucked it up :(. Eventually, the Rhine Goblins of HK were offered gold to fix them which they did and the awful cadet rifle how a bolt action rifle can manage to be more dangerous to use than an actual assault rifle.
If the SA80 had been offered free to warring countries terrorist organizations and criminal gangs the world would be a lot more peaceful as the wretched things would break within hours and didn't even make good clubs and the bayonets were toss too I mean how fucking hard is it to make a knife?

A little OT, but I remember when our Visegrips plant closed. The workers were told to pack all the machinery up so it could be shipped to China. As soon as that was done, all of the employees would be let go. It took months for them to break down the assembly line and pack it for shipment. I'm told that they weren't all that careful how it got packed and by the time it had been shipped to its destination, none of it was in working order.

Strictly speaking they're not machine guns, they're submachine guns (meaning they shoot pistol rounds). Some armed police in the UK carry them too and here they are adapted to only fire single shots. The idea is that they are a lot more accurate than hand held guns and also provide a bigger visual security statement.

This^^

Last time I travelled to/from the UK was 2006. There were armed police in the airport. It was Southampton airport which was not a big airport.
It freaked me out.

speaking of Americans with guns ...

" He explained that he would be “taken over by the Spirit of Christ and lead the people to unity,” the complaint states, and that “things can only be resolved by the barrel end of a gun." "

he was right at least in part of his musings though:

Ian Alan Olson, who made the 800-mile trip in a 2016 Subaru festooned with QAnon slogans, told a soldier on duty outside the Capitol that he was going to “test the National Guard tomorrow to see if they were loyal to the people or to the President,” that he was “willing to die to fulfill this mission,” and that his “actions would unite eight billion people,” the complaint says.

is there anyone on the planet who wouldn't think "what a tit" (or equivalent local expression) on reading that?

Although the Tit only fired paintballs at the army reservists and missed which is extra bizarie might actually get some mental health treatment he so obviously needs:(.
a bit like the poor sod who tried to get sentries to shoot him in Folkstone wore a camo jacket and a balaclava though it was blue with a bobble hat and had a fluorescent water pistol:eek:. So we gave him a cup of tea and had the medics take him away. Presumably, they got in contact with the NHS rather than just dumping him a field (proper medics not the ones attached to our unit)

Rifles fire HV rounds, pistols and smgs don't.

Think about it. If they shot really powerful rounds the gun would go all over the place because of the recoil

back to thread tho' - the USA does seem to lead the world in the commodification of particularly asian women as sex objects iykwim. kinda adds a slightly more uneasy feel to the event

Boulder Police Department Commander Kerry Yamaguchi said "multiple people" were killed in a shooting at King Soopers, including one Boulder police officer.

Looks like they have the fucking dickhead in custody,

The definition of a pistol is pretty broad in the U.S. at the moment.
There are firearms that are technically pistols that fire 'high velocity' rounds at a high velocity (see pic 1 a ruger 556 pistol)Ruger_AR-556_Pistol_3-e1560275197616.jpg
There are also pistols that fire 'high velocity' rounds (PAK 7.62x39 for example but a PAR 5.56 in picture) but with a small barrel the round never reaches a high velocity.par1.jpg
Then there are exotic hunting pistols with long barrels that fire 'high velocity' rounds at high velocity. ( pic 3 Various hunting pistols in .35 Remington)9515645_1.jpg
There are also fairly new calibres that are 'high velocity' and are used in ordinary looking pistols. The 5.7 x 28 round is very fast, military grade loads can penetrate body armour and the recoil is very low (pic 4 an FN57)Five-seveN_Rotators_4-1800x1275.jpg

Sorry for the lecture post but accuracy is important to me.
Also if you don't know what the terms you are using mean then people disregard your opinion very quickly.

Guns and the continuing use of imperial measurements are such quintessentially American things, that it seems odd that the only thing for which they use metric measurements is the calibre of their ammunition. It promotes the same sort of cognitive dissonance as the fact that in Paris, the Mecca of all things metric, TV screens are still measured in inches.

"Sex addiction" isn't a recognised diagnosis and the term can cover all kinds of compulsive behaviours - in the evangelical Christian community Long was a part of and sought treatment in, it seems to have been the term for "impure" thought and behaviour in general, Long apparently had some kind of fixation on issues of temptation and shame.

Combating pornography and improper sexual desire is an enduring theme within contemporary conservative evangelicalism. In churches, men partner in “accountability groups” to hold each other responsible for avoiding sexual temptation and other moral dangers. Others use “accountability software” like Covenant Eyes, which monitors screen activity and sends reports about pornography usage to a designated “ally.” Countless books promise spiritual and practical strategies for breaking free of the habit.

But there must be hundreds of thousands if not millions of young evangelical men dealing with similar issues in that weird and twisted belief system to some degree, what made Long a killer clearly seems to be racism, whatever he might claim - the fact that he chose Asian women as an outlet for the desires he viewed as wrong and shameful and then concluded that murdering them was the logical way to remove temptation suggests that he saw them as less than human. If it had been white women he'd probably have decided he had to save their souls.

Looks like they have the fucking dickhead in custody,

Dreadful, ten dead and the reporting seems that if a cop wasn’t among the dead this event would be little more than a byline. What a state the US is in with this crap.

I didn’t mention the Ruger earlier because I don’t think most people would look at that and consider it a pistol. My original point on this was based on something half-remembered about the FN-57 and also seeing a vid on Youtube that was testing some new body armour (where some quite “niche” handguns were fetched from the toy box).

I’m sure to most UK folk the idea of an “AR pistol” would seem like a contradiction in terms.

It seems that some weapons are being classified as pistols to get round certain NFA rules using some quite technical distinctions (is it a stock? no, it’s a “pistol brace” etc.)

Guess it makes more sense than our odd mishmash of measurements - both the Americans and the French seem less confused than the British.

Now what might be a possible solution to this recurring deadly problem...

Eyewitnesses said the suspect was armed with a rifle. A police source told CNN it was an AR-15 style rifle, a semi-automatic gun that has been used in several mass shootings across the US.

Fuck the NRA
