The American mass shooting thread

Perhaps we need to start thinking of mass shootings in the US as sporting events, with each state trying to win the World Series of gun murders. I think Nevada would be in the lead so far, with Florida a close second. The real advantage of this approach of course is that sports events have rules. So, just as in baseball you have rules about tampering with the ball, you could have rules about magazine capacity etc but pass them off as part of the rules of the game.
The Trumper games

I do think the openness of American school campuses is a problem, though obvs not as much as the guns. Anyone can wander onto a school campus in the US and a lot of these shootings have been carried out by kids who were on suspension (don't know if the latest Texas one was).

Like, maybe in the top twenty five percent of school shootings we’ve had, maybe top ten percent even. I dunno, I’ll have to have a look at the numbers...

I'm glad the two guys killed the one guy, before he could kill anyone else, but I still can't help but be annoyed at anything that lends credence to the whole "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" claim. Sure, it's happened here (and good thing too), but overall, it happens so infrequently that it really is a weak argument for stopping gun control.

In Massachusetts, a class of five-year-olds are learning this rhyme - set to the lullaby "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" - so they know what to do during a school shooting.

Parent Georgy Cohen spotted the poem taped to a classroom chalkboard at the school in the city of Somerville.

She posted a picture online, writing: "This should not be hanging in my soon-to-be-kindergartener's classroom."

However, she made clear that she didn't blame the kindergarten for its approach, tweeting: "The school is doing exactly what they need to be doing, and I am glad for it. My issue is with the political & cultural factors that brought us to this sad state. Please talk to your legislators about the need for gun reform."

ya gotta do what ya gotta do

He sounds like he was pretty ill and shouldn't have had access to firearms. :(

Yeah, I think that article has been updated since I originally posted it, as it didn't have any of the stuff about demonic possession or any mental health issues.

Without a doubt, some basic gun control, like ensuring mentally ill people can't get them in the first place, would have been better than this guy getting killed.

Still, in the actual circumstances, I suppose it's for the best that he got killed instead of killing lots of other people. How fucked up is that?

they count as agricultural equipment in the states here its illegal as hell.
the weird thing about suppressors/silencers in the UK and most places if you're allowed a firearm nobody to bothered if you put a suppressor on it as they don't actually make guns into silent assassin weapons most guns only sound loud instead of painfully loud.
one or two do sound that quiet

The scorecard is so full now that it’s harder and harder to do a “worst ever”, and those are the only times the conversation re-starts.
