I'm sorry your friend had to endure that. However, I wouldn't classify that as a race war. What's going on is the last gasp of white supremacy. It's on the run, so you get events like this as a response to the fear that everyone might actually end up being equal under the law. What I hope doesn't happen is that the right gets control of the government in the next elections. They'll try to reimpose white supremacy, but they'll call it "Christian values", "family values", or something Orwellian like that. Then, there might really be the race war some have been hoping for.

I was thinking more of the far-right Christo-Fascists that listen to the likes of Glenn Beck, and the pair who replaced Rush Limbaugh since he achieved room temperature, as he would say.
I saw something that really scared me the other day. I regularly drive across the state, and I'm used to seeing Trump flags here and there. What I wasn't prepared for was the emergence of a new flag. It's red and white stripes, with a blue square in the upper-left corner that has a white cross in it. You're seeing those along with the yellow "Don't Tread on Me" flags, and a grey and black American flag that is code for "we aren't taking any prisoners." We aren't in a civil war yet, but there's no lack of people on the right who would like to see one, along with a right-wing Christian authoritarian government.

Whenever someone of the left died, Limbaugh would start by saying they "achieved room temperature." It just shows the level of hate in some circles on the right.

Limbaugh wasn’t that well known here, but I remember him from an extended visit to the States in the 90’s.
The “room temperature” thing seems fairly mild compared to what I remember. Guess it became a trademark. The phrase comes off badly for its association with him.

I remember a lot of what he had to say because I was stuck in an office for a number of years that played him on the radio every day. And you're right. That was some of his milder stuff.

"Last gasp" might be the wrong phrasing, but what's going on is a reaction toward the civil rights movement by people not ready to accept it. If this was an actual civil war, you'd see 750,000 dead in a couple of years like our last one. If we get into another civil war, it will be worse than that. It'll be a couple of million dead and its a really scary thought that it might actually happen. Keep in mind, that I'm in no way defending cops killing people on the streets and that needs to stop.

Some of the coverage of Antifa is pretty funny. They've elevated a tiny and moderately shambolic counter-protest movement into some kind of mostly invisible ever-present Red Army analogue.

OANN wouldn't mind a civil war, and again, race is part of it, but it's more a rightwing vs liberal/Democratic/communist/woke/foreigner/muslim war.
