The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

There’s a lot of talk about the impact of Reform on the Tories, but much less about the high quantity of seats in the South of England that they lost to the LibDems. Places they’ve held for over 100 years. The Tories have lost Toryshire, and it’s pretty much for the opposite reason than the dominant narrative about why they’ve lost in other areas.
From a few results I’ve seen down here in the SW the reform vote hasn’t been that high (e.g. 10% in N Somerset), think they do better in red wall and south east areas, traditionally more reactionary

Banal ways that meaning and thus reality is created through the way that stories are told #7544: all channels are using a graphic showing the seats of LAB/CON/LD/REF/SNP/OTH. So Reform are being normalised as the fourth force in politics, despite it looking like they’ll end up with the same number of MPs as the Greens. The way the story is told reflects reality but also creates reality.

Hasn't declared yet according to BBC.

They are hopeless.

THE winner of the general election in north Herefordshire has been announced.

Dr Ellie Chowns of the Green Party has taken a majority and won the seat from Sir Bill Wiggin.
The Green Party had chosen north Herefordshire as one of its four priority seats to win, with Dr Chowns.
Sir Bill Wiggin has lost out on holding the seat which he has occupied since 2010, and before that as the Leominster MP since 1997.
Dr Chowns received 21,736 votes, with Sir Bill Wiggin just behind on 15,842 votes.
