The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

Worthing West used to always have the LDs in second place, they've come in 5th, after the Greens! :D

Lab - 20,519
Tories - 16,570
Reform - 7,562
Greens - 3,274 - 6.4%, first time they have saved their deposit!
LDs - 2,708 - saved their deposit by just 0.3% :D
Indy (who?) - 364

From a Tory majority of 15,004 to a Labour majority of 6,051. :D

From the results I’ve skimmed it looks like tactical voting hasn’t done too well, too many places with a sizeable Lib Dem vote that would easily have put Labour over the line. Fuck their bar chart skullduggery.
Although my primary reaction is vote how you feel, there's a whole swathe of traditionally tory constituencies in the home counties and the south of England where there's no way Labour will ever get an MP in, so the question is for anyone vaguely left of centre is, is it worth gritting your teeth a bit harder and voting Lib Dem just to send a warning shot across the Tory bow and get the fuckers out?
It's far from the case that everywhere with a sizeable Lib Dem vote, Labour might have got in if it wasn't for tactical voting, those Lib Dem votes would have gone to Tories or Reform or an independent instead.

I wouldn't do it, but my vote would be pissing in the wind, it's not like there's a whole load of people in Godalming and Ash who are dying to vote Labour and tactical voting denied Labour the seat.

I had a long hard think on this subject in a thread I started on tactical voting and decided I wanted a non Tory MP where I live more than anything and voted accordingly (lib Dem)

Labour of today are not the party of 2019 / 2017 or even 2010 or 1997.
