The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

No matter how important you feel he is, at a national level he really isn't.
They have been cutting people of all night it's how it goes. Sky cut Braverman off to go to some insignificant result, and she is going to be a candidate for leader of the opposition.
Like I said early he’s massively important to an hugely small part of the electorate.

Was listening to a podcast episode from Clacton recently. Some Labour supporting long term Clacton residents were quite resentful of retirees from London who had moved there to get away from the multicultural city. Didn't see Clacton as being a particularly racist/anti-immigrant place until people started bringing their resentments from elsewhere. (Pinch of salt obviously, as just an interview with a couple of people)

Can see some of that - also people from the bits just outside of London. Most people who move out of London do so for money reasons. but the people who move from outer London to Clacton are white flight.

There are some nice parts of Clacton, too.

Southend was going the same way but it has good train connections to London, which fits well with hybrid working. It's still very right wing but basically it has jobs and hope. Clacton has neither.

Cardiff West - imposed Labour candidate won, but vote share down 13%. Plaid share of vote up from 10% to 22% and pushed Tories and Reform into third and fourth, which was best hopes for the constituency. Greens got 7%.Think this is one of those inner city seats that could be in play for a left of Labour candidate next time around.
