Spanish Political News

Just shown this to my Spanish partner and she thought it was funny and spot on.

She said trouble is some Spanish people will think this "communist " government will destroy Spain.

Your partner is spot on about everything, and in particular the bit above. Over Christmas I discussed a bit of politics with one of my best friends, an otherwise intelligent and genuinely nice guy, and he kept saying Podemos were as harmful as extreme as the far right racist Vox party at the other side of the spectrum. He’s not the only one who believe that shit either. Depressing as fuck.

My partner says thanks for saying she is spot on.

There's talk of not having to pay Social Security at the end of the month. If so and the bank gives me a break on loans, I might have money to buy food. If there's food. Today the shops are very bare

Employees will have to go on the dole. Ive got no work for them and no money coming in. We cant bill for classes in April at the beginning of the month if theres no prospect of classes. I dont get dole.

Hoping for a bit more from the government on Monday.

I'm already bored. I was going to be watching F1, I've just got a 24/7 F1 UHD package. I could watch football instead. But no.

I'm stocked up with all we need for the next week and a bit. Only need some coffee.

I will survive.

My company is saying if students don't sign up for the online classes that there'll be redundancies.

Also, all the physiotherapists in Madrid are closed. I depend on a very specialist one. He can't treat me now so I will be agonising pain if the lockdown lasts longer than 2 weeks. ALSO - I just moved into a new flat and I'm completely allergic to it - I think it's the sofa. So Im locked down in a flat that's making me sick, waiting for the crippling pain and vertigo to come, and then lose my job.

Apart from that I'm fine.

¡Acabo de volar desde Pittsburgh y wow están cansados mis brazos!
Plenty of threads to be funny on. I myself am still trying to be funny on them. But forgive me for having a sense of humour failure on this one.

We are looking at online classes but cant see them working for singing and TPR classes in infantil and primaria which is what we mostly do.

TPR as in Total Physical Response?

I used Zoom for a group class yesterday and it was actually pretty good. However, there are definitely going to be people who don't want to use a platform at all.

ah - I'm learning Zoom, as we'll be using it if we're still out in april. not completely successful at it yet. i teach middle school (ages 11- 14), some with significant ADD, and the major question is how do we prevent them from chatting with each other during "class".

We take a lot of liberties with Asher and Krashen

My FCE and CAE students had their exams canceĺled yesterday, which was gutting for them.

Anyway politics. I expect to be stopped by the police walking to work on Monday. Im going to paint a few walls and fire everybody. I can't pay them but the gov can. Cant say it's going to be fun. Hope I can give them their jobs back soon.

You control the breakout rooms, they can't open them.

It'll be October won't it?
First there's the pandemic taking us into the summer. Then it's summer itself and no-one wants class. You're looking at October re-hires.

Talk here about class in the schools in July. To do whats left of the year. I can see that being unpopular, but people could finish selectividad or whatever its called this week.

My partners mother lives near Madrid. She is now very worried. She is getting on in years. Madrid area is in lockdown now.

I'm wondering what I can do to help others. I don't know anyone in this block of flats and I don't speak a lot of Spanish. I have A2. But I don't feel I can do nothing.

Where is she? In a pueblo or a commuter town?

Alcorcón. My partner was born there and her mother has lived in the area for years. So has lot of people she knows plus her grown up children. So she has lot of family support still in the local area.

Paramedics came to a house call in our street. Everyone went to the balcony to cheer them. It was more moving this time because it was spontaneous.
There was a lot of people on balconies at both 8 and 10 applauding. It was so very moving.

But there's others besides the obvious ones. There are shop workers, distribution drivers, etc. We need them too.
