Russia mobilises - consequences and reactions

Analysis from ISW this morning on mobilisation & conscription ...

Basically, it'll not [never] work - and why ; which goes back to decisions made in 2007/8

One possible angle of the big call-up: I presume a lot of the call-up cannon fodder will be used to plug gaps in the frontline units that have recently got a good hiding from the Ukraine side.

That means that some average randomer whose just been pulled out of his armchair will be expected to integrate with troops who have recently experienced some particularly tough events, who may have done some very heavy and brutal things (or worse) and will have seen some heavy and brutal things.

They'll already have the line that "the enemy is everyone who is not us". What happens when they're expected to babysit some average randomer who belongs to that category?

I believe the official term of art is "FNG". "Fucking New Guys". Which probably tells us all we need to know about the likely dynamics in play...

Mayhem spreads in Russia:

Don't think this can necessarily be linked to Putin and the war, Russia has had some horrible school shootings over the years. The fucked up militarised atmosphere doesn't help tho

Some of the replies to his tweet imply that for some the problem isn't Putin , its that these people are Russians

I am trying to mix screenshots of Tweets for those that don’t use Twitter with actual tweets mainly if there is a video and pleasing absolutely no one I’m afraid .
You don't need to be a Twitter user to view an embedded tweet, and I've just tested it to make sure.

Plus images with no description are shocking for people with visual disabilities, and you can't check the context/veracity of screenshots without manually going to twitter yourself and searching it out.

Others have different opinions though . I’m easy either way .

I mean... include both a tweet and a screenshot? Post an embedded link to the tweet instead of the auto embed thing along with the picture? Plenty of options.

But if you follow decent people you get 99% good results. It’s all about who you follow - and unfollow when required.
He said posted (as in on here) tweets. If it was Twitter as a whole, 95% would be unbelievably generous. The real figure would be statistically indistinguishable from 100%.
