Russia mobilises - consequences and reactions

This is the thing about internet forums (or even just talking to people.) It isn't what you say, but what people want you to say.

Not once have I said that Ukraine belongs to Russia. It's far from what I'm saying in these last few posts. Not that it would be 'my problem' if I did; it would just be me saying something, and presumably happy enough about it.

Ukraine said only today that it understands that it couldn't have joined NATO nine months ago.

Is the solution for any country that feels under threat anywhere to join NATO?
No, you have been very careful not to be that specific. Even though, for anyone with the stomach to look at a reasonable spread of your posts, it is clear that your agenda is about excusing Russia's invasion of a sovereign nation. It's all - admittedly, quite subtle - whataboutery. Puddle of sick.

Agenda? Fucking hell.

Wait, do people arguing unpopular positions where they're in a tiny minority sometimes feel a bit mobbed? Holy shit Urban must be unique in this phenomenon, which has never happened on any other message board or indeed in any other public space! Oh the humanity!

C'mon man.

You don't tow the line. Dissent of any kind makes people here feel uncomfortable. It's remarkable given the propaganda that abounds all around.
There's no 'line', and no 'dissent'. One poster in particular keeps posting repetitive drivel they will not back up with anything except crap about how nobody don't know nothing, it's tedious and insulting and it's getting people's backs up.

There are plenty here that wish for peace, but most of us recognize that all (or at least 99%) of the decisions on that matter are in the hands of a small group of powerful Russians in the Kremlin.

The question at this point is, how can this be ended with the least amount of suffering and bloodshed? If anyone, anyone has a decent answer to that it would honestly be most welcome IMO ... but the constant drip of 'told you so' bullshit and 'sacrifice Ukrainian lives for the greater good' just ignores:
a. Ukrainian agency
b. any lessons we might learn from history
c. that fucking pro-war monstrosity yesterday
d. Putin's already history of murdering anyone and everyone he doesn't like

I have no answers, I wish I did, but calling everyone know-nothings and hinting at a monothought clique just for disagreeing with insight-free shit flinging is just .. lame. It deserves whatever response it gets.

Incredible really, when you consider that the war foamers can get what they want to hear in 90% of posts on here, and in the entire western media.

For on

Yeah, yeah. For one thing, I have repeated endlessly that 'we' have learned nothing from history. If 'we' had, this war would not be happening.

Why do you assume no good faith negotiations possible?
The grain shipments didn't have Putin giving up territory. He's shown he'd refuse to do that by annexing them - irreversibly.

How could Ukraine give up their territory as part of the negotiations? Putin would clearly then just occupy those bits and do his preparations to take over the rest.
