Rugby World Cup 2023

Quick word about Wales. Gatland outgatlanded by an even more negative team. Argentina were awful, imo, but we were awfuller. In control and 10 up with the gameplan working and then just a desperate implosion with no pressure applied. The three lost lineouts were inexplicable and set the tone for the rest of the game. It just felt like we had no idea once our poorly executed kicking game was found out. Arg deserved winners due to being slightly less shit when it counted.

That said, Dickinson's (and his ref team's) head contact decision was fucking mental. I hope the cunt never refs a senior match again as a result. It was a stone cold red every second of every day and his decision to not even award a pen was batshit. World rugby are going to have to back him now but by fuck it'll be the wrong call. An absolutely craven piece of officiating

Was that when there was direct contact to the head so his head snapped back and the ref said there was no contact to the head and refused to check? Mind you wasn't that the video ref that said there was no contact?

So, revising it for a NZ v RSA final yeah?

Ireland choke, again. Still, better than losing to Japan in the pool I guess. If France also choke, I fucking give up. What's that game with the round ball, seems quite popular, might look at that.

New Zealand are on to win the rugby and cricket world cups in the next couple of weeks.

That was the final last night. They'll brush aside everyone else.

I thought he said there was no foul play, not no head contact.

IIRC the guidance goes
  • was there head contact?
  • if so, was there foul play?
  • if so, what was the degree of danger?
  • were there any mitigation?

If the answer to the foul play question is "no", then that's that.

Still a penalty though, right? Bendeus will know better than me

You can ask dessiato who to support at every stage of the tournament ;)

That's Sexton and Earls gone now. I imagine over the next two years we'll lose Bundee for a French contract, PO'M and a few others will retire. The future is pretty bright the schools and clubs are all producing talent, the Under 20's run in Championship is proof enough of that.

Still proud of the team, maybe Farrell could have rested players for Romania and Tonga but hey, that's hindsight. Yeah we lost another quarter final but a bounce of a ball and better placement we would have been through.

I didn't see most of the game as I was busy getting smashed. But is the consensus that the right team won? Any dodgy reffing or anything? Did McKenzie make it onto the field?

Dickinson appeared to erroneously apply the guidance for head contact in a tackle (mitigation if player is dropping) to head contact with a prone player in a ruck (no mitigation). Did the player join the ruck recklessly without due caution for the opposition player? Yes. Did he make contact with the head? Yes. Was there a high degree of danger? Yes, leading to Tompkins being hauled off for a HIA. Is there mitigation? No, because the scenario doesn't allow for mitigation. Result: red card, pen to Wales, Argentina don't score the subsequent try.

Don't get me wrong, Wales shouldn't have had to rely on a ref making the right decision at a critical moment to win the match, but once again a mockery is being made of serious attempts to reduce head injury in the sport. Dickinson fucked up royally and the quisling assistants and TMO effectively waved through his idiocy with their quiescence

Sad about Wales being out due to a shit series of lineouts in the first half, and a shit ref. Overall it's been a great tournament for Wales.

I actually managed to get out to France for the Fiji and Australia games and have a ton of wonderful memories.

Both the better teams won yesterday imo. NZ close in defence was excellent and what won them the game. That and Porter having a very poor game.

Let's see if Lord Bald's confident assertion that we'd see an all NH semi final lineup is absolutely rather than partially torpedoed today. It would be a poor lookout after all the hyperbole and hubris to see all the European teams sent packing by end of play today.

If you thought the haka couldn’t get more asinine with the spear last night wait until next week. Rumour has it a pair of canoes will also be carried onto the field and one half of the team will give the other half ritual tattoos.
The spear just adds even more layers of pompous farce. The canoe would be a magnificent addition

He has just said England can beat Fiji at their own game which feels optimistic
