Local Elections (not that London) 2024

Went to the back of the store-room and finally found all those party placards...

I head the Disgraced Sunak on the radio from the count podium having a good crow about the result - he was honking that Labour shadow cabinet had effectively set up shop there but still hadn't managed to win, while very much skirting the point that it's quite probable that it's only him staying away from Houchen's campaign that has allowed him to win.

Right, West Mercia PCC.

The Tory won, which isn't that much of a surprise (Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire), but the Labour chap wasn't that far behind - 63k to 73k.

The interesting thing is the interplay between Reform, who stood in lots of the council seats that were up for grabs in Kidderminster town council, and who got respectable results, but didn't (I think) win any seats, and the English Democrats who stood in the PCC election. he got 21k, Greens got 22k, Lib Dems got 33k.

Turn out in Wyre Forest district was 23% and broadly mirrored the wider result.

Update for coastal West Sussex.

Worthing Borough Council, having won their first seat ever about 7 years ago, and taking full control 2 years ago, Labour have increased their majority by 2, by taking 1 from the Tories, and the last LD seat. Greens having won their first ever seat last year, took another from the Tories.

Final score - Labour 26 seats, Tories down to just 9, the Greens on 2, the LDs wiped out completely. Just 7 years ago it was 34 Tories and 3 LDs, so that's a massive change! :D

Meanwhile in the Adur Disistict Council area, Labour have taken overall control for the first time ever, in what had also been another safe Tory area!

The vermin are dying on the South coast:thumbs:

Last time there were local elections Labour collapsed here in Nuneaton and Bedworth and were left with something pathetic like 6 councillors, giving the Tories control, which they never stopped gloating about. This time there were boundary changes and new wards and so every local seat was up for grabs, and the Tories got trounced. Despite the fact that the brand new wards tended to be in true blue areas of town.

Especially satisfying was that a scum tory who also sits on the country council as well as the borough council got involved in a shitstorm some months ago over disgusting statements about SEN children in a county council committee meeting. Her borough council seat had to go to a recount this time and it turned out that she lost by 5 votes, ha ha.

Not much change in Coventry. Labour still in control and gained 3 more wards.

However next door in Nuneaton and Bedworth, Labour have won control from the Tories. Nuneaton is considered a "bellwether" area in elections

For what it's worth, my council (Tandridge in Surrey) have finally finished counting up the votes.

Residents' Associations (of various flavours) - 20 (+12)
Cons - 7 (-3)
LibDem - 11 (no change)
Independents - 5 (-9)

All seats were contested because of boundary changes. So, NOC. The previous administration was lead by the Residents' Associations with support from the independents. I suspect nothing will change.

We currently have a Tory MP with a 20k majority but what I find a little odd is that Electoral Calculus suggest that Labour have a 63% chance of taking the seat at the next election. There's a boundary change which will bring in ca. 8k of voters but apart from that our council area is the parliamentary constituency. There were labour candidates in many of the wards but none of them came close to getting elected! I know it's a local election and people may choose to vote differently but I can't see that Electoral Calculus's methodology can be accurate here.

Nice to see my Surrey blue belt isn't completely full of con fuckers, Il mention, I haven't seen one tory sign in this area, which compared to years ago is unheard of.

Still, yellow tories :(
