Local Elections May 5th 2022

Who are this lot? I've read wikipedia and it makes them sound well dodgy. Former party wiped off by the Electoral Commission and they've just re-elected a mayor who was banned from standing for 5 years. What's the lowdown Tower Hamlets people?

I don't really have the political chops to explain this and they blindsided me to a large extent so am playing catch up. This is what the man himself says:

Lots of middle class pro LTN people are having kittens that he's going to tear out the LTN's, (something along these lines certainly seems to be on the list). I hope he doesn't, I think they are (usually) a good thing.

As scifisam explained previously there does seem to be a pattern of iffy votes but he claims it is all trumped up. Lots of local left wing twitter accounts seem to be chuffed that Blue Labour got a shoeing.

Time will tell.

Yep, also been amazed by how many new accounts there are popping up on NextDoor saying Rahman and Aspire are all amazingly wonderful and anyone who disagrees is a massive racist who hates the left wing. I generally use NextDoor for recommendations for handymen or posts about lost cats, but it's turned into Aspireville all of a sudden.

He's not a socialist, he's a grifter. In the mayoral election after his 2014 "win" was voided, I actually saw Rahman himself getting back into a car near a polling station (he's quite recognisable, and I'd met him before), where he wasn't supposed to be (and that time the cops did care - someone else reported it to a polling station cop at the same time as we were about to, but Rahman sped off).

Ah well. Another four years.

Truly bizarre report from headline to the end of the story. The actual story was Plaid won the council for the first time in years, breaking years of NOC deadlock, but it's reported as they are 'the largest party' (in the headline) in 'results very similar to 2017' (subheadline) - and then a report all about the PC leader of the council losing his seat. No mention of them winning control.
