Local Elections 2018

No elections here. On the point of voter apathy there's been a recent study stating that people in Wales are the most disengaged and apathetic about politics in the UK. Cue much hand wringing about ignorance when it's obvious Welsh people understand quite accurately that they're in a Blairite one party state. Politics here is the Progress wing of a London borough getting a country to run. Forcing people to write wanker on a ballot paper won't solve that.
You don't need to write wanker on the ballot paper, the Electoral Commission have already supplied you with a piece of paper with the names of several already written on it.

Where we live in true blue yokel-land we aren't voting this year, but my wife told me yesterday that middle daughter (who is) had told her Mum she had bumped into the Tory candidate as she came out of her front door (wearing her nurse's uniform) and got asked if they could count on her vote to which daughter replied "Can you see what I'm wearing? do you think I would vote for you clowns?"
There is a lot of their Mum in my girls.

voted this afternoon. was surprised the only candidates were labour, cons, lib dems and Green. Was hoping there would be smaller parties to vote for. last few times my vote went to animal rights party. ended up just voting Greens. No clue what their plans are-but was not prepared to vote for the usual 3 main paties

Considering how much news time is given to politics and how much it changes people's lives this country is still very apathetic.
......
Really think that voting should be mandatory and more done in education to raise political awareness.
Voting=political awareness. Lovely. Well I guess Australians must be super politically aware.

Didn't get anything from anybody. Outside chance I might have voted Labour if one of them could persuade me that they weren't a wanker but seeing as though they couldn't be bothered, fuck em.

Perhaps they should introduce a residency test for all candidates.. as far as I could make out most of the candidates didn't live in my ward, or anywhere near it..

What are the residency requirements? I think you have to at least live in the local authority area don't you?

Owning property counts, I think.

I didn't vote for the first time in ages cos I'm trapped in Fancy London: Shoreditch Edition instead of the harsh reality I actually live in. This is probably how Judas felt.

You don't have to, but it's a way to be eligible without living there yourself (1.1b)

I don't read it that way:

1.1You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the local authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election. For more details, see paragraph 1.10.

Paras 1.14 to 1.16 provide further clarification.. although I agree it isn't watertight.

(I do miss the beardy man icon.. :()

Ah yeah, I read it as own but it's effectively occupy in person.
