Labour's proposed local government re-organisation

That's for the whole of Lewes district, not just the town, so it includes the more deprived bits like Newhaven and Peacehaven.

I'm intrigued by the "corruption, nepotism and general thieving" in Eastbourne though. I had no idea Eastbourne was that exciting.
It appeared briefly for less than an hour on the Eastbourne Reddit before being taken down by the moderators. I saved the story on my phone and will send it to you in the morning hopefully.

Avon would have built the tram that Bristol+S.Glos.+N.Somerset+BANES never could.
Absolutely this. Avon was abolished because people/politicians in the outer rural/suburban areas didn’t like paying taxes to support stuff in central Bristol, or have their votes diluted by the Labour-voting masses in urban areas.

So sensible transport stuff (like getting a railway to Portishead) never happened because most of the line would be outside Bristol’s area so they couldn’t fund it and North Somerset wouldn’t want to pay for something to take commuters into another area. Or something like that.

Also the farce around Bristol City’s new stadium - Bristol approved the development but a small part (think it was an access road) came in from North Somerset so they were able to block it and the scheme went in the bin.

Not sure if it's affected by this, but Oxford City Council is traditionally Labour/Green (not sure what its composition is now but for years there were no Tories at all), while the County Council is generally full of Tories. Given the County Council is responsible for things like roads, this causes quite a lot of issues. Never mind all the district councils in Oxfordshire that do whatever and also tend to be Tory or 'Independent' but Tory adjacent. (There was a proposal for an elected mayor years ago but it was rejected.)
This isn't so much the case anymore although similar issues remain.

Oxfordshire County Council has been no overall control since 2021, with Lib Dems leading. Initially it was a coalition of Lib Dem/Labour/Green but there was a big falling out between Labour and Lib Dem and Labour group left the council leadership.

None of the district councils are Tory-led anymore, a mixture of no overall control with Lib Dem or Labour chairs and Lib Dem majority.
