Positives about the next Labour government

If they stick to their twin commitments to reduce the public debt and not to increase taxes on businesses/the wealthy, I can't see anything other than a more unequal society than ever before after the first Labour term. Wealth will flow upwards.

And I fear Starmer has an authoritarian streak, so plenty of Blair-like control measures in the name of being 'progressive'. Internationally, I fear he may be like Blair as well.

Sorry, no positives from me. :(

I am afraid I find Starmer about the smuggest politician I have seen. If he is elected, which seems likely, I believe he will see it as a positive vote for him and become even more smug. Also if they have a plan, they are keeping it quiet.

This risible thing about “Starmer having no plan” is just a weak Sunak attack line against a shadow administration that is clearly and obviously refining policies for a manifesto and an immediate implement agenda. The time to launch the manifesto is when the election is called.

Interesting he seems to shit and halting to be smug to me. Blair was smug in that he clearly thought he was entitled to everything, as much as he'd like to project that image Starmer to me comes across as someone trying to pretend to be something he isn't

I think a starmer government will be so awful that the unions might start to reconsider their support for Labour. It's only a might and the FPTP system makes it very difficult to contemplate setting up or trying to replace an established party. But the question of 'why keep paying for someone to keep booting us in the head' will certainly be raised.

He has a plan. No higher taxes on the rich and reduce government borrowing.

In a sense, that is worse than the tories, who always talk about the importance of reducing govt borrowing but rarely actually do it.

*For clarity, I would like to see a commitment to increase taxes on the rich and to increase public borrowing (aka investment).

They have a plan: total subservience to the City, continuing support for genocide. Thats it

Yes, I agree that he is being relatively honest about the constraints any incoming administration will face. I thought that weltweit was talking retail politics specifics.

Things will go from really shite to only just awful.

I think a Starmer government will actually do a lot of damage to the "perceived left" and just re-enforce the idea that (certainly in England) there aren't many realistic options for left/progressive voters, leading to more disengagement and voter apathy.

The Conservatives have had years of practice to become expert at syphoning off the public purse into the pockets of them and their mates.

Labour will start off with amateur skills so we should in theory end up with slightly more public money making it to actual services.

Genuinely can't think of anything that Starmer is still even pretending he's going to improve. There can't ever have been a major party heading for a general election with so little to offer. And then you've got human sewage like Wes Streeting openly slagging off the NHS.

I'm really struggling to credit just how shit Starmer's labour party is. How have they got nothing at all right, in five years? How have they not said or done one single thing that resonates with the general public?

There was some stuff about getting rid of zero hour contracts, fire and rehire, some other employment stuff.

The "green new deal" lost it's £28 billion a year promise, but there is still some stuff in there maybe.

But.. you know. I have no faith they will do any of it.

I hang on to a tiny hope that once in power the left in the party have only being biting their lips to get in power and will feel secure enough to rise up and kick out the imposters.
Unrealistic I know but its the only hope I can find
