Cheers CR, those pics will be very useful for another aspect of the NKNK project we're working on. :)

some good stuff here...except for this one goddawful illogical lazy and sectarian quote that Connolly never even said but one solitary person ..eejit...claimed to have heard...as is too often with our mangled history

“The odds are a thousand to one against us, but in the event of victory, hold onto your rifles, as those with whom we are fighting may stop before our goal is reached. We are out for economic as well as political liberty. Hold on to your rifles”.

he never said it:mad::mad:

but good background here from an East Wall historical society surrounding a guy called willie halpin and his role in the iCA..the guy with the sword at the front in the first pic above.

and this is one of the best essays ive read...mebbe the best.. that cuts through all that usual self serving left sectarian shite and sheds true light on Connollys political relationship with pearse and the run up to and after those events . And the real potential there was for genuine socialism in Ireland . Very well worth a read ...a dignified appraisal of dignified men ...miles ahead of the usual nonsense.

Thing is WW2 was a much simpler situation, it wasn't a political mess like WW1.

Not true. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact pushed some willing to defend the show trials out of parties aligned to the USSR. Others such as Elizabeth Gurley Flynn called it the "Second Imperialist War". Bayard Rustin, a member of the Young Communist League, notably refused to fight.

In hindsight it was simpler, because the Nazi's actually were that bug-fuck insane.

Both Pearse and Connolly were strongly pro feminist in outloo in a deeply conservative country . What should never be forgotten is the vigorous role played by women in the anti war and anti imperialist struggle under their progressive leadership
