ITALY vs England

But some England fans seem to go around believing its true and then express surprise when they're completely outclassed by a team supposedly significantly worse than them.

Believing the hype is true of many club and country football supporters including your own country men. No excuses for some of the less knowledgeable English football fans but the Ramsey and Bale etc bollocks I've heard from the Welsh is just as deluded fella.

decent effort this. sadly too little too late.

I'd say the hype around England (although I've heard very little this tournament tbh) is absolutely nothing to do with the rankings. I'm pretty sure I've never heard anyone use them as evidence for anything, ever.

Although it's quite funny how much they annoy some people.:p

England are supposed to be the 6th best team in the world. Italy are ranked as the 12th.

That's plainly bullshit.

According to UEFA's national team co-efficients, Italy were ranked 4th in Europe and England 5th.

The top three before the competition were Spain, Netherlands and Germany, so their top 4 rankings were 75% correct. England got as far as expected based on their FIFA and UEFA rankings.

There's no hype whatsoever around England now, aside from what the tabloids push to tournament fans who barely watch a game outside even-yeared summers. The pretence that there is just as a pointless (unnecessary) attempt to justify hating England and their supporters beyond it just being normal rivalry.

The only people I know who expressed even a modicum of surprise that England aren't very good have been foreigners and non-regular football watchers. Anyone who has seen England play over the last decade more than a few times got what they were expecting.

They were ok. Just not great on penalties.
They should do the final decision with a game or air hockey, maybe.

Oh yeah, also Bad - The neanderthal cunts watching the football in the same pub as me, spouting every imaginable cliche (mostly wrong) and then being so full of sad, impotent rage that they decided to start smashing up cars on the road home, pathetic.

I watched the game in Italy, and can confirm that England does not have a monopoly on cretinous football fans.
